Cannabis Sponsor

Sounds like fun, but I don't know if this would be good for the game. Imagine having to remind your opponent every time it's his turn, which balls to shoot at, which end of the stick to use...

A game between two sponsored players could take forever (if it ends at all). And figuring out who won? Fuggedaboudit.

Now if the sponsor brought samples for the spectators, that would probably solve all these problems.

This is so stupid. Do athletes sponsored by mcdonalds have to eat the food during the match?

On a more serious note...

What do you think the pros/cons are about playing (or practicing) while high? I find it's a great motivator when I'm a little bored with practice - I can focus strongly again, with the patience to really apply myself to each shot.

For competition it's more of a distraction.

How about you?

Well put. I used to really like it but in competition i'd find my mind kinda wandering. For hitting balls/practicing it really helps. For me anyhow.

We used to call an 1/8 ounce of pot, an "8-Ball." That would give an 8-Ball tourney a whole new meaning.

Is there some company interested in this or just speculation and hope on our part?

You must have hung out in some really weird circles. Everywhere else in America, an 8 ball in terms of drugs is synonymous with cocaine.

*Side note, if you used to smoke "8 balls" with your buddies back in the day, that may have not been "weed" buddy. It would also explain sooooooo many posts for me,
Cheers:grin-square:

I was going to start a thread on a potential sponsor, but I'll just post it here...

If you listen to this company's ads, everyone of those uses the term, "break" as part of their marketing strategy. Break this, break that, take a break, etc.

The company is Kit Kat candy bars.

Might be a real potential pool sponsor, if someone is looking for one.

The one thing I worry about is the "Teflon mind" effect - will the things I learn "stick" as well?

I would say 30% of the players I play in league and tournament with play with a certain smell about them already and take "smoke" breaks then come back to the room with a stronger smell.

Only issue would be with real events dealing with it, say Matchroom. But considering it is partnered with major gambling sites not sure there is much difference.

There is as gambling is legal in the UK, Canabis isn’t (yet). So there would be a problem for international events (especially in Asia and the Middle East I’d imagine), but should be fine in Canada and the US!

Encouraging more young people to smoke weed isn't really where the advertiser should be aiming. :)

Instead of a THC based product I think a CBD product would do better. Older people are the fastest growing users of CBD for pain relief and as a sleep aid. Many older pool players who suffer form pain might be very interested in trying CBD for the pain relief alone. I think the demographics of who watch pool on PPV and youtube is generally older as well.

That is where I would go if I were to sponsor pool players with an MJ company.

I suspect that there would could be Canada-US border crossing issues.

https://www.cbp.gov/newsroom/speech...as-legalization-marijuana-and-crossing-border

Note the paragraph :

"A Canadian citizen working in or facilitating the proliferation of the legal marijuana industry in Canada, coming to the U.S. for reasons unrelated to the marijuana industry will generally be admissible to the U.S. however, if a traveler is found to be coming to the U.S. for reason related to the marijuana industry, they may be deemed inadmissible."

It would be up to the US Customs officer to determine if a pool player going to a tournament sponsored by a cannabis company is traveling "for reason related to the marijuana industry" but it would be a risk IMO.

Further to this, specifically in Canada, as far as I understand the regulations prohibit cannabis companies from sponsoring events.

Na! It will cause a food shortage in the pool community Stoners ....

Would be good for the bars/pool halls. Of course with half the people stoned and half the people getting drunk, I would wait till the place cleared out a bit before driving home.
