People that are scared to meet and actually play pool.

Funny stuff. It’s the teacher part that bugs me. You’re doing the folks who are looking for a qualified instructor a disservice by not calling him out. To some extent you’re also calling out all instructors because I’m wondering if you’re talking about that guy near me who gives lessons. But at the end of the day you’re probably handling it right. We both know this tool will eventually talk crap again and get called out by somebody.

I was watching a guy on the table next to me shooting a shot and trying to make the cue ball land on a piece of paper.
And against my best instincts i said if you hit that shot with low inside left it will change the angle of the cue ball.

He says you cant change the angle unless the cue ball hits a rail.
I said yes you can
He said no,I'm an instructor.
I said may I shoot the shot?
He said yes.
I hit the shot with low inside left.
The cue ball landed on the piece of paper.
I said nothing and went back to my table.

Actually a great thread.

My room closed quite a few months ago so I migrated to other rooms and it was quite a while before I could find a game in any of these rooms.

Everybody I asked had a good reason why they couldn't play.
Let me say I am not a big gambler, far from it.
I know what I can afford to lose and I also know I don't want to make living at the game. I've seen what that leads to.

An acquaintance of mine has a saying you may have heard before "I'll play anybody in the room even up for the least they will play for."

I hate getting weight and I hate giving weight. I have taken a lot of lessons that way. I will also play for funsies.

On another note, one room I go to there are about three instructors that come to mind and they can't make a ball. They do have beautiful equipment though.

Gotta love the pool world.

Hoot! Same sort of stuff happens on all forums. One car forum I visit had Porsche guys bragging of driving high speeds...some showing pics of speedos at 130 and above.

Finally one guy posted a pic of himself and car...saying no speedo but gearing and revs said about 230 mph.

Pic was from Lemans, and yes he is listed as a driver.

Funny how quickly that thread died...

Point being...there are those out there who really are as good as many claim to be.

Their was a poster on here some years back from New York.
He was coming to Denver to visit relatives.
He said he was a straight pool player with a high run of 130 balls.
I told him i played straight pool and have run a 100 balls.
So it should be a good match up.
We met up and played.
He couldn't run 10 balls with an open rack.
After a couple racks i could see this guy had never run 130 balls.

Why would someone claim to be a good player and show up and be exposed?
Did he think I was a fraud?

Maybe he counts runs like one of my buddies: I had been running through Tor Lowery's drill to determine your level of play: Start with 4 balls and play the ghost in a race to 10. If you can beat the ghost by AT LEAST 10-4 2x in a row, add a ball and repeat...if you can't beat the ghost, stay at that level and practice until you can.

Well I explained the concept to him and mentioned that I had been stuck on 7 balls for the past month. He asked if he could try so I left him to shoot while I went and finished up some stuff around the house.

When I returned, he informed me that he was up the 6 ball ghost. I couldn't believe it because I know I am a couple balls better than this guy. I decided to watch his 6 ball race. He knocks the first two in and gets out of line on the third ball...he has a long back cut. He hits it well, but the ball rattles and hangs in the pocket. He walks over and nudges the ball into the corner, and runs out the last 3 balls..walks over to the chalkboard and PUTS A TIC IN HIS COLUMN!.

"Wait a Minute", I say, "You just lost that rack!" Dead serious he says, "nah, I give myself one mulligan per rack...not like I'm playing for money..."

I told him I didn't know how to respond to a fella that would cheat in a game against the ghost...

Maybe your bud who "runs 130" gets mulligans during those runs:grin- square::thumbup:

I like having an Alias on here but I wish the mods would put some sorta skill rating by our avatars like a Fargo or apa etc lol.make it a requirement to join. That would weed out a lot of fake news lol

I run into the same thing with people I connect to doing genealogy. They may
email you, message you but won't talk on the phone with you. I get rid of fake ass people.

Where do you play now that the big nice room closed?

It would also give the false sense that someone with a low rating had input less valuable than someone with a higher rating. Already occurs with post count.

Z-Nole...You must be talking about me, since I'm the only professional instructor in the Tampa Bay area. I can assure you that whoever Jake is talking about is not me. I've been on here since the beginning, and I have a stellar reputation within this industry.

If a person doesn’t hit the ball very well, it doesn’t make him stupid....
...a non-proficient player can be capable of great insights.

When I was young, I used to give an ex-boxer 75 points playing snooker...and win.
One day he told me he felt a little funny saying it but he felt he could improve my game..
...it was how I handled a rest...he showed me how a boxer uses his feet as he throws
Rights and lefts...I changed my whole stance and immediately jumped a few levels.
...I still think of George Peters when I use a rest...thanx, my old buddy.

Angelo Dundee had no boxing record, but still a Hall of Fame trainer.

If the words on the screen make sense....that’s good enough for me.

I've came to know several people on azb that for some reason talk the the talk but when it comes to actually meeting and actually playing str8 pool, 1hole, 10 ball or anything...... well, its always the same ole crap, I would but........etc, etc, etc...... never fails.

Now, I know as well as anyone that a lot of members on here are up in years and can't play for long periods of time and can only play certain days and even then, are limited to "what" they play and even certain rooms, I get it.

I'm not speaking of them. I'm talking about the 30, 40, 50 and 60ish year old folks that are in good health and are full of chit, that do what I'm about to talk about.

Im almost to the point of calling one person out in the open. Why? Well:

He continuously drills newbs for asking "newb questions" and also argues to no end with seasoned players about things that are more advanced and talks as if he was a real strong player at one point but is still a shortstop speed player, not to mention, he claims to be a "well paid" instructor/ coach that has a full schedule all the time with hardly any time to play private matches.

Well, I "just happen" to overhear him talking about a particular situation that involves another AZB member.

I was in a strange room, didn't know anyone there and was taking a break from hitting balls.

Well, as said above, I couldn't help but overhear something and that something could only be known by someone that's pretty familiar with the older and newer threads on AIMING in general.

The more he talked the more I listened and it clicked and I knew or at least had a real good idea of who he was on here.

After all his woofing on here and the right out lies I witnessed him blabbering out to what seemed to be what most would consider "less knowledgeable" players. I spoke up and ask him if he belonged to AZB.

LOL.... he paused, and then said "I'm aware of it but, I dont really know much about it."

After just hearing him literally trash a well known and very respected member on here that talks the talk AND walks the walk just fine! I came out and ask him what he thought about certain aiming techniques, what he uses, what games he likes to play and for how much etc...etc.

After he more or less shook like a leaf on a tree while he was backpedaling to the door, I ask him how much he charged for lessons.

LOLLOLOLOL..... at least half a dozen rail birds almost fell to the floor laughing.

After he left I was filled in about him.

I immediately sent him a message on here. I told him that if I EVER seen him jump on even one member, new or old, I would let everyone know who he is, where he played and above all, he is no instructor and is a weak, weak a55 player not to mention, MUCH YOUNGER THAN HE SAYS HE IS.

Why would anyone lie about their age and tell people they are ~20ish years older than they actually are.

Some people are really good at pulling the wool over the masse' eyes. He has done a very good job at it for a long time "on here"......"till now".

I'm a man of my word, I gave him my word and as long as he chills out I will keep my word and not say anything further.

Bottom line:

Dont take shit for granted, insist for videos, creditable witnesses etc.. otherwise I'm to the point of just saying BS and move on.

Sorry for the long post. I know many of you have felt with this stuff before, as I have. I guess from time to time we (i) need to vent about such things.

Rake << nothing special but, I can and will back up what I claim. Recorder's are cheap.

I've tried asking for video in the Aiming Forum after any number of guys proclaim their use of a particular aiming system is allowing them to play mar-ve-lous-ly.

You ask for video and it's like you're requesting permission for a prostate exam, lol. Always a million reasons why they can't turn on their phone for a few minutes.

I caught my first tarpon when I was twelve years old on my neighbours boat who had a house on little Gasparilla. My buddies dad had a friend with him who was as excited as I was. When we left for home that guy signed his business card for me, which meant absolutely nothing to me. When I got home my dad asked "why do you have signed business card from Anegelo Dundee?" I said who's that?

Hello

I haven't been on here much for a while till lately. Been busy working on other things. But I can relate to what has been posted here. The part about lying about your age though. I don't get that. It did make me laugh though.

Some just need a little more training with the "particular aiming system that is allowing them to play mar-ve-lous-ly".
And when that time comes, one of these days someone you never saw before will approach you in your home pool room and ask you...."wanta' play some of that one pocket cheap"?
At that time, you can call the play or scoot out the door. :)
Miyagi say...."Daniel-San, things not always as they seem"

This reminds me of a quote my old sales manager sends w his emails...

"Everybody is a genius. But if you judge a fish by it's ability to climb a tree, it will live it's whole life believing that it's stupid".
