Three cushion rant

i garuntee you get people playing 3c on 8ft tables they will love it
straight rail even
they dont gotta be afficianados to have fun

make it fun/easier more people will play, the more it will grow

Nothing wrong with an 8-footer, I agree. They have 3C tournaments on them in Europe and I know I have seen video of the big boys, including Caudron. Yup, here it is:

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HuFa-xXAHV4&t=206s

He makes 100 points in 13 innings, including a run of 32.

I met a Dutch guy at the World Championships and we chatted in between games. He told me that basically over there you have to achieve a certain degree of proficiency before you get to move from the small table to the big table.

I'd love to try 3c on a small table, but finding 8 footers that are set up for 3c, as opposed to the small games, is rarer than finding a 12 foot snooker table. I've seen a 12-footer, but while I've seen some 8 foot Carom tables with slow (by 3c standards) cloth that were set up for and used for the 4 ball game, at Q billiards in Aurora CO, I've never seen an 8 footer set up for 3c. Q has one 10 foot 3c table and several of the 8 footers.

... there tell me if the powers that be are doing anything to grow the game of 3 cushion? ...
Support of 3-cushion in the US is entirely by volunteers. How much support in both time and money are you willing to provide?

im getting one soon, an 8fter

and by setup for 3c, just slap on royal pro cloth, and its fast, i play all the games on fast cloth just like the europeans

its only the vietnamese and koreans that put slow cloth for straight rail

yes ive seen the caudron video, made a 35 run i belive

shoot olhuasen makes carom tables, as does golden west here in the us

or you can buy over seas and have them sent here will still come out cheaper than a 10-12k 10fter

if i had the money to spare i wouldnt need to be here jamming it in everyones faces

matter of fact, im soon to have , by summer, 2 tables a 9 and an 8fter
that both can fit in my garage

ill try and get neighborhood kids playing instead of local pool players as that just aint happenning

I find the carom games more entertaining than pool...but I dont know that I'd feel the same way if I had equal time on both.

It really is strange to me that carom games' interest has virtually disappeared. It is the ying to pool's yang.

I don't know of a pool room with a bumper pool table anymore and we used to play it all the time 25 years ago.

Billiard tables are non-existent here as well.

I've started playing Cowboy lately.

I see a lot of pool players playing 3 ball. When I tell them the rules of Cowboy they become interested and see it as a good way to improve their regular pool games.

Most people just do not know the game exists.

That was fun to watch that beast play on an 8 footer, thanks for the link, Rich!

Have you ever played on an 8-footer set up for 3c?

I'm not sure. In 1983 I played in a cafe in Amsterdam that had a 7' or 8' table in it similar to the one Van Goph painted (night cafe). I played 3-cushion on it but not sure how it was set up. It was fun for sure, but I got kisses I wasn't expecting.

this shit right here is a HUGE reason what wrong with the game in america

people think, ohh it dont hold the spin for 16 rails, its not heated then you cant play 3c with your diamond system

omg the table sucks, cant play with none dotted balls
cant play on unheated tables, or 9ft tables even

you can play other carom games than 3c

oh but those are too boring, same crap MANY pool players same about 1pkt and 14.1

why can pool players play on less than tournament level equipment but not carom?
its just stupid

anything which requires too much initial investment

that too, there are many tables available that do not cost 10k dollars that are of quality make

Calm down.

Perhaps I exaggerated a bit, but there is truth to what I am saying. If there is a roll on a carom table, it ruins some shots entirely. On a bad pool table, I can just shoot harder to not let the roll come into play. I can't do that in carom as greater speed changes the angles off the cushions which is fundamental to the shot. It ruins the shot. There are some shots in carom where there's enough margin, and other times there isn't. Quite often the ball is slow rolling to make the point.
