New Big Foot Champ Chang Jung-Lin !

He doesn't speak any kind of English.

A buddy of mine drew Chang in the 1pocket. He had a female interpreter with him. After the lag she asked my friend which pocket was Chang's. After he explained she turned and told Chang, "Make balls in this pocket."

He did.

I was talking about Ko but yes, Chang speaks very little English too.

I would be curious to know what the line would be if Chang and Shane played an even 10 ball set to 50. I've already heard from multiple sources that Chang has steam rolled Orcollo several times.

Chang has stole from Shane too when Shane went to Asia.

I heard that they were trying to set up a partners game with Chang and Cheng against a couple of Roy's horses.
Interestingly, Chang isn't that strong with doubles. In WCOP last year, he was the weaker player while Kevin Cheng was simply flawless and the lead partner.
I think like Shane, Chang is an introvert and is weaker in team play.

Few years ago in CSI Tiger Challenge, Orcullo leading 18-15 (in race to 21) played a poor safety and sold out the 1.
If I recall correctly, Chang then ran out the whole set and Orcullo never came back to table

Ok. I was curious because Chang was never seen much around the 2nd flr (Thurs - Sun). Orcullo got in games in the Big Truck room and Kevin Chang too...

Do you speak Mandarin, Stu? I'm surprised Ko Pin Yi had an in depth conversation like that, with you. When I've chatted with him, I got the impression he only knows a few sentences of English?

Eric

Sorry, I'm not quite the language scholar I'm cracked up to be. Ko only spoke a little English and we didn't have a chat lasting more than a minute or two. The chat occurred at the US Open in Chesapeake shortly after Ko won his World 9-ball Championship. One of his team members was with him at that moment who does speak English and facilitated.

And you got all that, including Ko saying he was scared to gamble with Chang in a passing 1 minute convo through a translator?

I know I sound dubious. Interestingly, I have had a couple of short conversations with Ko Pin Yi, at the US Open, over the past years they have been coming. I've been going to the US Open, every year, for the past couple of decades. In fact, I did see you attend one year and said hello, remember?

I (coincidentally) also had a similar, albeit, longer conversation with Ko about which Taiwanese player he thought had the best chance to win the US Open, that year that Pin Yi won the World 9 Ball (I believe Kevin Cheng won, that year). The conversation morphed into who is the best player(s) in Taiwan. A few players were suggested but no one was named the de facto king. While Pin Yi seems like a modest person, you cna tell he has pride and confidence. The impression I got is that he would play anyone and feels he can beat anyone on the planet, if he is right. Im kinda doubtful that he would say that he is scared to match up with Chang (although he probably doesn't want to go out of his way to challenge him, lol)

Chang and Shaw was supposed to have a 100K match a couple yrs ago, but it got cancelled when Chang didn't make it to the US.

Shaw had mention about the match during a stream before it got cancelled.

flave of the month

there's been a lot of guys particularly from Taiwan that have been billed as the second coming

LOL. He's owned Shane in gambling action over the past couple of years when Shane travels to Asia, and he's the one player Shane's backers won't make a game with playing even.

I've never heard any Taiwanese player, possibly aside from Wu Jiaqing, ever considered to be the world's best player by anyone. JL Chang is the best ever player from Taiwan and looks like one of the best we've ever seen.

Chang's composite TPA across all four of his Bigfoot matches on the ten footer was about .925, a standard that has never been seen before and yes, I've watched every single one of them.

This guy has been the flavor of the month for a couple of years and may remain so for a couple more years.

Yang was considered unbeatable and the world's best

and Big Ko, Wu of course as you;ve mentioned

but I digress, yes Jung Lin has some exceptional skills

sustainable? not convinced yet, feel the same way about Shaw

Things are quite close amongst these top 7.

The hype is real. He's been performing at a high level for a really, really long time, maybe 10 years? but he has mostly stayed under the radar news-wise until the last couple. his skills aren't exceptional if you take the Ko brothers or Wu as the benchmark – or rather his style is simplicity personified. His consistency is exceptional though. They don't call him the beast (loose translation of his nickname) for nothing.

Chang has been consistently performed in almost most every big tournament recently like US International Open(1st), World 9 ball Champ(last 8) and this time Derby City Big Foot 10 ball(1st), he beat Kaci, SVB and Filler to win.

In terms of pool skill he is definitely the one of the best pool player in the world.
However he was not invited to World Pool Mater and not even got into last 5 candidates of Fan's choice spot...that's really weird to me.

Do you guys have any thought to this?

Cheers.
Mark.

No doubt about it , definitely one of the best fundementally sound players in the world.
None of the Pinoy’s but Biado wants a piece of him during action games when they were in Taiwan.
He beat biado playing 10k if I’m not wrong.

He was invited to the masters couple Seasons back but let’s just say that he isn’t very exciting to watch with his robotic textbook style as compared to the likes of eagle eye Shaw , wu , ko brothers, Dennis or filler .
For short races, I guess they are looking more for flamboyant players.
My 2cents

He reminds me of Buddy Hall in his prime (which lasted for three decades!). Buddy did not play a spectacular game. He didn't need to. He was always in line and stayed close to the object ball. That made for a lot of simple looking shots. He would kill you with a thousand cuts! And yet, when he had to, Buddy could come with a shot that would make Earl, Efren and Parica all flinch. Like Mizerak, Buddy had a super powerful stroke when he needed it.

Mosconi's brilliance at Straight Pool looked very much the same way, rack after rack of easy shots. He also could make an extremely difficult shot if it was required.

Both of them Masters of the game of Pool!
