How's that break out "48 players chosen by WPA rankings & member federations" going to be done?

In general, the way things have happened in the past is that the WPA gives to each continental confederation a number of spots for the confederation to nominate. In addition, the top several players on the WPA ranking list are given invitations. If the players nominated do not choose to play they have to let people know so their spots can be offered to other players.

The quota for each confederation varies and seems to be determined largely by which confederations have sent players in the past. The BCA (North American Confederation) seems to have trouble sometimes filling its allotted spots.

Right, I was just curious how that was going to work with just 48 spots to be filled. I doubt if North America would have a hard time this time with it being in Vegas :D

Regardless, it looks like at least it will be kept to Pros and not any Joe Schmo who wants to sign up. A Good thing.

Qatar WPA 9 Ball was broken out like this:

WPA ranking 24 (includes defending champion)
APBU 20
BCA 6
EPBF 24
AAPA 4
CPB 3
OPBA 3
Qualifying Players 12
West Asia & Arab 12
Host Country 8
WPA wildcards 5
Organizer wildcards 5
Sponsors 2
TOTAL 128

WPA Allocations

Good question. The allocations for the WPA Players Championship are as follows:

WPA rankings (16)
APBU (8)
EPBF (8)
BCA (6)
CPB (4)
AAPA (2)
OPBA (2)
WPA wildcards (2)
Qualifiers (16)

The Stage 1 Qualifiers are the only avenue for a person not invited to get in. Anyone may register for the qualifiers.

Ok, thanks. BCA only 6 spots? Guess the Americans will be filling up those qualifiers if they want to play.

They gonna give a WPA wildcard to Siming Chen to spice it up?

You are very welcome. Yes, there will be many people wanting to get in and the Stage 1 Qualifiers are the way to do that. Thanks for the question.

The 48 player stage 2 field looks STRONG! I'm surprised there are no mainland Chinese players though. Were they not invited, or they did not accept due to travel/other reasons?

How committed does CSI think these 48 players are to showing up?

Out of curiosity, how does CSI extend invitations? Surely some players will turn down the invitation for various reasons. For example, does CSI invite 64, and inform all 64 that only the first 48 YES's will be in? Something else? Are there any standby players?

I'm only asking because the logistics of organizing an event alway interest me:)
