Why do some folks not wanna be known on here?

I started using a screen name on Ebay years ago; it reflected my involvement in outside interests in that era. Everyone did that, and so did I. Then about 2010 I got involved in another sport and adopted a screen name apropos to that sport.

If I had ever won anything bigger than a $100 bar table 8-ball tourney I might post my real name here, but there is no upside to it, just potential liability, not from others on AZ but from those who collect names and/or email addresses for nefarious purposes.

On occasion I post a question, opinion, rebuttal, experience, thought, maybe minor knowledge, but if I ever pretend to serious pool knowledge, someone please smack me down.

I just figured you was U J Puckett. : )

I do get curious who on here might be a real good player I’ve seen before but the knowledge that most here are APA 4s would just kill it...I’d rather speculate to myself and look for crumbs and clues. There is one character from the beach I’m curious about since that’s like 5 minutes away from me...one stroke.

I use my real name because it keeps me accountable for what I say.

Anyone who believes using a fake name will keep what you write from the public eye if it's important enough is a fool.

I have belonged to a professional forum since 1998 that demands you use your real identity. So far no issues have arisen from it.

I understand everyone's reason/reasons why they do/dont, would/wouldn't use their real name on here or the net in general.

I was a computer programmer analyst during my younger years....RPG/COBAL type stuff. Yep, the dinosaur languages...lol... anyways, yeah, I was aware of security type reasons but:

It burns my a55 up when I read some of the crap I've read when people either make wild a55 claims and then get pissy when someone ask for proof.....

Hell, I made claims....was called out....i put vids up and alls well again... No biggie.

OR........

One of those same people..... then start giving out advice like it's their job or something. You know, the person their normally giving "misguided" advice to is a newb to pool in general and the wrong advice could very well cost them a lot of $$$/time.

I was misled as a kid and it took a long time to recover. Even then, I only recovered because of two very wise/knowledgeable....and yes, older gentlemen that saw fit to take me under their wing.

Unfortunately, both died before molding me into a stronger player. So, there I was at the whim of the misguiding a55hats once again.

A friend of mine says this to me anytime I say or claim ANYTHING lol..:

I'm from the "SHOW ME" state......

I just had to get that off my chest. Lol.... I feel better now.

I'm gonna change my ID to junior samples / br549

With all due respect, we aren't all here selling cues.

A Fool

Rake I feel the same about the advice part. Another forum I belong to has “trusted ——-“ tags that members get by proving their knowledge and skill in the area of what it’s all about.

Pool has a lot of different ways to do things and you can always test out what people say but it is nice as a starting point to know their level of knowledge/skill.

I don’t mind the nameless people, I understand that: I wish they were forced by the forum to post up their skill level whether is an APA or Fargo number. I’d like to know the playing abilities of the ones forcing their opinions and talking crap lol

If you aren’t continuously separating good advice from bullshit, how are credentials
going to help? It’s great to be open to new concepts...but it’s bad to let someone else
do your thinking for you.

This author is unknown....can you get any value from it?

Would you stop discriminating if a guy who can run a 100 at 14.1 fed you crap advice?

Years ago I made a statement that the best safety players I’ve seen play on pool tables
with big pockets....if you can’t park whitey on a dime, you sell out.
...a British snooker player took offense at this...I said that a lot of safeties at snooker
required only distance. He responded “Who the hell are you?
I told him “Read the words on your screen..if they don’t make sense, tell me why.”
....he passed

Damn it PT!!!!!!!

There you go again, being logical and trying to make us use our head for something besides a hat rack.

Every time I think you have used your last piece of wise/knowledgeable statement/advice..... lol .... you let another one out.

Just how much do you have?

I like that, even for non sellers.

That is kinda my line of thinking.

I like to hear what folks can do, have done but, I had much rather SEE IT.

Sure, I understand that "some" folks on here are at a certain age and they just can't play at the level they once could. That's ok, we can see ability/knowledge FROM A MILE OFF.

We can also see BS from a mile off....if....its on vid.

There are plenty of reasons. Here are a few:

*For some it is for security reasons. There are some super creepy people out there. How many for example just saw your name and googled or facebook searched you?

*Others use a user name so they can be a bit more open about things particularly in the NPR forum.

*There have also been a few well known cases here of folks intruding into other posters real life because they were pissed off about things here that got heated(old timers know who they are).I will not out them but someone will probably fill you in just in case you are really curious. This is not unique to AZB!!!!!!

Why make it easy for them? If asked I will give out my name. If Someone searched my posts they could find it too.

This is may be the biggest reason of all:

In my opinion but just like in a real pool hall or bar this virtual pool hall has plenty of first class bull shit artists. I have verified a few in person over the years too. Secret is safe with me guys lol! This is not unique to AZB either. Ran into this a lot on car forums as well

Phil Jones.

You know? I didn't realize just how full of chit some people are until I "sneaked" up on a member here while in Huntsville.

He didn't know I knew who he was.

I was sssooool funny.

I’m a huge fan of Instagram for pool, lots of players post drills and shots or entire games

Look, lol.... I'm a banger. You know what? A lot of people say that just to get someone to say "aw man, you play good".

Well, I play some what regular with people, especially this one cat that can beat my brains out if he gets in gear. REALLY, REALLY high gear...he has.

He says when I go out, I'm a banger at large.lol.

Look, what 5his boils down to is:

I miss the old "all-out-scrappy-grinding" from the old days of our youth in most rooms back then where stranger walks in, says I'll play ANYBODY.....ANY GAME.....FOR ANY AMOUNT. lol... house man made a call and there was a game.

Now days, lol..... people do everything but have a contract drawed up before the game even starts......IF..... it starts.

I would LOVE to start a BREAK n RUN contest. We could do it by skill level.

Say x group has to play 10 ball
Y group 10 ball with no BIH
G group 9 ball with BIH
W group plays 6 ball

Also...... if on 9' you play one way.......7' you play another way.......pockets smaller than 4.5 do this....larger...do that....

Everything has to be on a vid with time stamps....etc...etc...no editing...etc..

We could have a new challenge every weekend and make it so cheap...say $5 per person and put $1 of pot toward a biggie at end of year.

Its gotta be something we can do!

I couldn't be over it, I'm not smart enough.....lol.... plus, I may run off with the roll.

I am totally oblivious to the action side of pool and how it plays out on this forum. I have no game to speak of, don't gamble on myself and hadn't even considered needing to somehow prove my worthiness to offer opinions (buyer beware)

Maybe just to expand on the privacy aspect a bit more. It's a much bigger deal on other forums I participate in and maybe the mindset just carrys over since someone can easily connect the dots if I give out personal info here but not somewhere else. I generally use the same or a similar name.

The reality is that on many other sites we share our enthusiasm and post pictures of what can be very valuable (and very portable) collections and would like to remain anonymous. If someone is showing his Rolex collection worth $300,000 on the Rolex forum and then coming here to talk about his upcoming trip to a tourney, he's asking for trouble. I'm into watches, guns and a few other things. I can either share my pictures of things or share my personal info. I'd be a fool to share both.

Some on here know me. I don't post personal info for many tinfoil hat reasons. I'll share my info through PMs if anyone needs to know. I just got my first book of faces account so I could watch the Mosconi. A co-worker set it up for me with a fake name, email, and HIS phone number.
I'm in Tucson so if anyone wants to find me I'll make it easy for them :wave3:

Is it so they can talk chit without anyone knowing who they are?

Security reasons? Maybe there gazillionairs and they dont want to be robbed.

I'm just curious. I see a LOT of it on here.

What brought this thread to be:

Guy talked chit, lol.... then wouldn't man-up and play or even be-known.

But, I found out who he was anyways...... lol....imagine his surprise when I confronted him?

Hilarious!

Rake.........Jeff Crouch.....
I'm a gazillionair and don't want other people to feel bad about being such losers.

You got me.
