Most Often Reasons We Miss?

For me, cut induced throw (CIT) is responsible for more misses than anything else. I often won't account for enough CIT when I aim a shot which cause me to hit the shot too full and miss.

Anytime I make a mental note to over-cut my shots to counteract the CIT my potting percentage goes way up. But then, after a while, I'll subconsciously go back to my old habits and start missing again. It's a continuous cycle of ups and downs.

I've noticed it really helps to play with dirty balls on my home table. As much as it sucks, it really forces me to think about how much the balls will stick on each shot since the CIT is amplified.

Anyways, I just wanted to share and get you thinking about the factor that is most attributed to your misses as well. Feel free to share your own analysis.

Prior to this year it was assuming spin-induced-throw had more effect than it does on cut shots while also not accounting for deflection. Also not hitting center ball when intending to. Also bad rail bridges.

This year? Mostly lack of focus and free wheeling. I tend to speed up, skip my pre-shot routine, and deliver a jerky stroke. Not on every shot. But often on the shots I miss.

I've heard some miss shots because they're looking at their position and not the shot... of coarse I've never done such a thing.

I have confidence issues also
Always get nervous playing a good player
Dont know why i cant just focus on my playing

I play way too much alone,am just recently asking anyone to play

Most often it is focusing on either future or past instead of the present. The only thing that should be on your mind is executing the shot in front of you. Easier said than done sometimes.

A split mind. You cannot think about 2 things at once. Make up your mind (even if it is the wrong decision) before you get down on the shot. If you are thinking about 2 different things without being fully committed, most likely you will miss at that point. Commit.

I guess you'd call it focus.. you're down on a shot and your mind
starts wandering, thinking about shooting it a different way, for
position or strategy.. that's the killer.

Lack of confidence. Something feels wrong and shoot anyway.

My personal experience.....if you go looking for confidence, you invariably find false confidence.
If you strive, sometimes confidence arrives, and that’s the real thing.
I feel that fear is your friend, keeps you honest with yourself and trying hard.

With the number of times I missed the 9-ball, I was told I’m either lactose intolerant or simply don’t like my money.
