Great looking cue....as fancy as I want a cue...it’s a player’s cue.

Zactly... Simple. Unadorned. But with serious *chops*.

Of all my cues, only one has ANY inlay, the Joss. One diamond in each of the 4 points. And yeah, it's purttyyyy. But even just that is really too much. Wasted M o P.

Another Tulsa special. BS made some really iconic cues during his days here. Classic designs that will NEVER go out of style.

He told me a few days ago he made it either there or in Colorado. He doesn't recall the cue itself but said he RARELY use these joint rings ( so it was a custom order ) and with the points being this sharp, had to have been either there or Colo.

Yep. He used the sideways "w" from '72-'80. He left Tulsa in '78 so its one or the other. I'm a homer, i'm claimin' it as a Tulsa cue. ;)

That cue is "strictly business". Just the way I like 'em!

I forgot to ask Bill, and he might not have been able to tell me anyway, but I'm pretty sure it's an ivory joint. I looked at it REALLY closely ( with my best pair of glasses on! ) and I believe I'm seeing grain.

I LOVE this cue, Johnny. Have wanted a JW for waaayyyyyyyyyy too long.

My Rick Howard has no inlays. 4 ebony points and 4 veneers. Ivory joint, and Hoppe ring.
You can get one of those blacklight flashlights like they use to check for counterfeit bills to see if it's real ivory. Google how to identify real ivory and you'll find it. Ther's something about a hot needle test also but I wouldn't dare touch a hot needle to my cue.
Enjoy that cue and I hope your feeling better, lots of folks here praying hard for you !!!

Most likely its the real-deal considering the age. If its turned more yellowish it would kinda indicate micarta. Looks tusky to me.

I don't think Bill ever used "faux" ivory but that a good idea, the blacklight thing. I might see down the road.

Post a few images of your R.H.!

I'm doing ok, Johnny, thanks. This feeding tube has been a kind of a pain in the a55 as you can imagine, but, after starving for a month, I'm now gaining weight back. So, yeah... things are good. Thank you, sir.

That's actually the very first thing I noticed about the joint. White as the driven snow!

An example of a perfect player's cue!

I love it.

Unless it's been "refinished", I don't think you have to worry about the joint/ferrules being imitation. Billy used real ivory, always.

I hope you're able to use it in good health really soon. God Speed, sir!

That's a mean player, for sure... strictly business!
Those points and veneers are perfect.. almost looks
like a Gus with those joint rings!

Betcha can't wait to get out and put some hours on it

As far as joint materials I've had stainless steel, solid ivory big pin, sleeved ivory big pin, piloted ivory, solid yellow micarta big pin, piloted yellow micarta.
Never faux ivory except I've had several from the 90s with faux ivory butt caps.
The butt cap material was really cool looking and only Stroud had it.

Very nice example of a Josswest
Love the points
I play with one as well

Thank you, Buster, very much appreciated.

Yeah, never refinished but it's as if it's BRAND SPANKING NEW. The shafts are almost impossible to get on. Literally. I was AMAZED. This thing is the S**T!!! :grin-square:

The easiest test for ivory, particularly for a joint is that the end of the joint should show the cross hatching pattern known as Schreger lines.

Beautiful cue. For my tastes, simple is better and this gets it done. Out of curiosity, what is the cue's length? I have also always wanted a sharp point JW, but every time I see one, they are <58".

Best wishes as you continue treatment.
