World Cup of Pool 2019

I was just going with Mario He who was originally supposed to be there over Kazakis...and I thought Filler would be going for the team this year and would take Kaci in points.

I'm on the side of team USA, so I welcome Kaci to team Europe because I thought he under performed last year, and he didn't look so sharp at the World Cup of Pool this week. Maybe not used to the bright lights? Shot clock makes him rush a bit out of his usual routine?

Not sure how Mario made the team before disqualification last year, but that guy is solid in world cup of Pool on live tv tables. I don't want to see him on the team either.

Mario made the team as the number two ranked player on the 2018 Eurotour, behind #1 ranked Kaci. When Mario disqualified himself, Alex Kazakis, ranked #3 on Eurotour last year, replaced him.

Filler will qualify this year as the highest ranked WPA player (#1 at present) among the Europeans. The top two highest ranked Eurotour players (other than Filler) at present are Kaci (Albania) and Mateus Sniegocki (Poland).

So if the selections were made today, Filler, Kaci, Sniegocki, and two wild cards, but this can change as there's a lot of pool left to be played.

As you suggest, Europe will have a strong team again.

Any rumors that we are going to bring back the same 5 for USA in a repeat bid?
It's never too early for Mosconi Cup gossip.

Even if this decision has been made, which seems unlikely, announcing it would demotivate every American hopeful other than those on last year's team. It would set a bad precedent, too, for future hopefuls.

Also the Spanish guy that won World Pool Masters, generally that person is highly considered for the MC.

I think there is a good chance, that we won't see Albin or Mario at MC this year.
They both have not the best season for their standard and so they are quite low on the European rankings. There are still some tournaments to play, but I guess the 10ball event in Vegas and the China Open are the only tournaments where someone can grind out a Wildcard.

I think we will see Kaci and Filler for sure. Sniegocki has a good chance to come through the rankings too. Ralf is also in the race, although his performence isn't on top right now.

One wildcard is booked for Shaw and at the moment Albin or David Alcaide might get the second one.

That said, there are enough Euro players, who a capable of going deep at the remaining events. Melling, Kazakis, also Mario has a good chance to book his place by having some good results in Vegas or China.

Well stated. Europe first spot will go to Filler as the #1 Ranked WPA player.
I believe the next two spots will go to the two highest ranked Eurotour players. The current Eurotour rankings follow below. Anyone on the list is probably still in with a chance to be one of the top two.

Great to see Ralf Souquet at 51 still being able to play with the top European players on the most difficult pro tour on the planet.
That's inspirational. Also what is really special about pool. That you can still play quality pool even at 50.

Agreed 100%. Few have shown top form after age 50.

I think it would be nice if Mateus Sniegocki earned a spot, just because the rise of pool in Poland has been so impressive. Poland is really producing some good players these days, including Konrad Juszczyszyn, Karol Skowerski, Tomasz Kaplan, and Mieszko Fortunski.

2 teams

Me thinks that Europe has so many good 9 ball players they could field 2 great teams. Amazes me that the U.S. can compete at all with them, but they do.

I looked at mine, Comcast Xfinity, and we have something called Sky, but all the sports events on there, none of them are pool. Everything but pool. https://corporate.comcast.com/company/sky/sport

Yeah Sky don’t really advertise pool much, even on their own website, as it’s a minority sport for them, with only the 4 Matchroom events shown. Also outside the UK the rights may be different, so even with a subscription, some events could be blocked (I’m guessing).

super mario was the man of the moment, solid as a rock. i think malaj had a great showing as well, he can really come with some shots. bijsterbosch also worth mentioning.

wu, shane, melling were the biggest disappointments, although there were many.

dennis grabe displayed a poor behaviour against his team partner imho. apparently the arguing continued backstage. i hope he never fills a mosconi slot..

I watched Fortunski for hours at DCC this year.

IMHO, he is the the straightest shooting kid to come out of Poland in the last 20 years.

When he gets loose, he really rolls. Very fun to watch.

Yes, I've seen quite a bit of him, too. He's a great talent.
