I'm a fool/revelations

For those who think its best to avoid side spin, how much are you using that it is giving you problems?

How much do you think is appropriate for most shots?

Here is a pic showing some different tip placements (yes there are more places to cue the ball, but for the purposes of this discussion, the pic will suffice)

These are the tip placements I use frequently, for various shots. I will explain what I use each for after some replies come in.

I'll take a swing at it

The first offset I use a lot, usually combined with high ball.

The second offset serves me well also, I use it more with today's fast cloth.

The third offset, I mostly use with shorter shots and plenty of open table.

The last offset is almost certain to miscue. Got to be close to the object ball and the object ball close to the pocket. I am probably jacking up the back of the cue for a semi-masse shot.

Another shot I use on certain cross banks when there is going to be a lot of collision induced spin is to jack the back of the cue and keep the ball skittering all the way to the pocket. Seems strange but it keeps the angles true. Spin doesn't mean much when the ball is in the air! :D

I do a lot of things like use little substantial side as a general rule. That doesn't mean I can't use it when it is the best option.

Gotta say, I rarely use any of those tip placements. Stun shots with spin, as illustrated above, aren’t a usual part of my arsenal. I might use one of those tip placements to pocket a ball but rarely use it for cue ball position.

Im speaking distance off center vertical axis, not saying it cannot be combined with draw or follow.

OK, didn’t mean to derail your train of thought. I’m looking forward to reading your uses of spin. Spin is difficult and hard to master. Any help is useful. I know, it has been screwing my game up for years. 🥵
