Question Rio Hotel in Vegas

Race2-9

I keep seeing tournaments being held at the Rio and am curious as to what the Rio is like, I've read it's average to a dump....any help appreciate

I have had a few conferences there. The rooms are older and not as clean as I would like. Two years ago a coworker and I both got bed bugs there so this year I upgraded my room in hopes that it would be cleaner (it was). They had legionnaires disease at the RIO I think it was 3 years ago as well. I would not say it is a dump but needs updating and to be cleaned better. Its my understanding it was bought out and not much being invested as it will be torn down to build a baseball complex in a couple years. You have to cross an overpass to get to the strip so at night it is best to uber if you dont have a car. What events are held there?

All of the large CSI tournaments are held at the Rio. It is the replacement of the Riviera for those events.

The last time I stayed at the Rio was mostly OK, but they had no room for me until about 7PM. At first they had me go through some kind of automated system that was no help at all. Whoever manages the front desk needs to find a different job.

On the plus side, the parking is free which is not true at a lot of hotels now.

Overpriced flea bag! The Gold Coast across the street is cleaner and much less expensive. Many other better choices in Vegas.

Once upon a time I bookrd four nights there for $19 a night, through a travel site.

Left after the first night.

The Rio is a complete joke.

Dirty , food is expensive . I never stayed there , and never will.
Wait ! but a billiard organization personally told me last year they signed a 5 year contract .
Even with all the complaints from players to vendors , to visitors . :frown:

The venue is the reason I won't go back for the BCA event.

The Rivera, Circus Circus were dumps, BCAPL always seems to go the the place that are not 5 STARS, same as their big Event in Arizona. Fort McDowell, another dump.
I think that most of the attendees would rather have a room for $100 a night than $300. Most pool players are frugal. When the BCA (before the BCAPL) tournaments were at the Riviera, the players would pack as many as possible into a room. The sales manager told me that housekeeping had found one room where someone had built a nest of pizza boxes to sleep in.:shocked2:

People also forget the day that Las Vegas was a cheap get away have long gone south, the great deals on rooms, buffets, and show only go to the high rollers. Today every hotel worth it salt has some famous Chef's resturant, and a meal for 2 is going to set you back $150.00.

I often wonder why the BCAPL has not gone to Laughlin, as the place still has deals. not sure if their is a room large enough to accomidate their venue.

Personally I have not been in the State of Neveda since 2008, have no reason to go back, we have Casino within 1/2 of me, and Talking Stick resort still does a great cheap Sunday Buffet.

The days of FREE, or CHEAP Weekends are over in Sin City, unless your a hefty gambler. Oldest Cousin live their in Sin City, he left for 5 years, came back, says where did all the deals go. Like Taxi's Uber replaces the cabs, welcome to 2019.

I get that Bob but partnering with a crappy venue lessens the value of the BCAPL, IMO. I think it shines a poor image on the BCAPL. You could be a model citizen but if your friends are all dirtbags, people are going to assume you are a dirtbag too.

Las Vegas does not live or die if the BCAPL come a weeks a year. Their target market is all the big time convention that bring hundreds of thousands of business people with big bucks to spend to Las Vegas. That is why everything's so expensive today. Las Vegas is catering to people with big bucks.

Hell all you need do is go the the Cesar's Forum Shops, and see the cost of the item they sell their target in not the Motel /Riveria crowd.

There are still ways to enjoy the amenities of Vegas and not have to pay the high bucks for everything (room, food, parking, resort fees). Many of my old friends who are gamblers (a lot of very good ones!) bought condos or homes in Nevada after the housing crisis of 2008-9. There were deals aplenty and it was a wise investment as the property values have come back. I made a 50% return on my investment in a condo I owned for only three years there.

There are still quite a few nice places you can stay (hotels, motels, Air BnB) in the $75-100 range that do not have a casino, don't charge for parking and have no resort fee. I prefer renting a fully equipped condo any time as opposed to being holed up in a hotel room with only a small frig and microwave. I don't have to park a mile away from my room either, or walk back and forth through a casino to get there. You can find them if you go online and look.

This way I have more money for eating out (or buying groceries and eating in the condo) and enjoying shows and museums and stuff like that. There's so much to do in Vegas that doesn't cost a lot. All around downtown is very cool these days and you can park and walk anywhere. As long as you stay out of the major casino/hotels your money will go far. We will occasionally visit a strip hotel for a little gambling (usually poker at the Mirage, Aria or Bellagio), see a lounge show (many good music and comedy shows), and maybe eat in their food court, but that's about it.

Come on, you can say the organization's name.

LOL, someone who got bedbugs and says he wouldn't necessarily call it a dump - way more tolerant than me!

pay cheap get cheap. if the tournaments cater to those looking for cheap then thats what they get and wont make money.
