Mosconi Cup 2019 Day 2 (26 Nov)

Why isn't Bergman playing more? Seems like he is being left out...

Noticed that too. Only playing in the final Doubles match, same as Billy Thorpe. Meanwhile Skyler is playing in the first three matches! He's got a lot on his shoulders today.

More than any other player on Team USA, Justin Bergman found his "A" game yesterday, having delivered big-time in his doubles match as SVB's partner. Shane was a little off, but Bergman's play was enough to deliver the day easily. Justin, per At Large's stats, is also eight for eight in making a ball on the break in this Mosconi Cup, and when Justin is breaking well, he's scary good.

Johan's choice to key on Skyler over Bergman is a big surprise to me, but I'll keep an open mind. On the bright side, Skyler has draw Feijen in singles, and as poorly as Niels is playing, he might win that one win without breaking a sweat.

Match of the day is SVB vs Filler. I don't believe Filler, the WPA #1, has ever lost a singles match at the Mosconi, but SVB needs to do something about that.

Filler had his first loss in doubles or singles yesterday when him and Shaw lost to SVB and Bergman

Bergman's played in 3, Woodward 2. At the end of today Bergman will have played in 4, Woodward in 5.

Doesn't seem left out. They must figure SVB and Woodward are the workhorses?

Still, over 3 days really doesn't seem like a disparity.

Shane is obviously our best player, but I think in this format, that Filler is the clear favorite. Can Shane win? Of course, but maybe his odds of winning are only 45%. Whereas I would say for the rest of team USA vs Filler

Bergman/Sky- 40%
Thorpe - 30%
Tyler - 25%

This is how I think Shane would favor against the rest of team Europe in singles.

vs Alex - 75%
vs Niels - 60%
vs Kaci - 55%
vs Shaw - 50%

So from a game theory standpoint, maybe it's better to put anyone else up against Filler. Since Filler is a favorite in singles over everyone on USA, and let our best player face someone else; where he'll be no worse than even money.

Just a thought and I don't even know if Johan put up Shane knowing he was playing Filler or if it was just a blind put up.

What are you basing your % on? Is it a gut feeling?

I like when Skyler and Billy were playing and talking about the tit and Karl tried explaining what they were saying. You could hear him trying to figure out what to say.

That is exactly what any Apa captain does every week.

As of the end of today, here is the number of matches each USA player will have played (in addition to the Teams match). Then tomorrow it is all singles, with every player playing if the event goes the whole way.

Van Boening -- 6 matches (3 singles, 3 doubles)
Woodward -- 5 matches (1 singles, 4 doubles)
Bergman -- 4 matches (1 singles, 3 doubles)
Thorpe -- 3 matches (1 singles, 2 doubles)
Styer -- 3 matches (1 singles, 2 doubles)

Agree with those %
I think they know Marcus will put up Filler. With strong team that Marcus has, his strategy has been to put his top players in earlier single matches like in Day 1.
Karl suggested that Johan should not put Shane against Filler in last singles match (Match 15) on Day 3
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9o380E5oMEY

But the last 3 matches of Day 3 are the last batch before next batch tomorrow, so Johan can put Shane to play in last match today and can still play Shane tomorrow. The singles tomorrow are not affected by todays matches
In fact, if this goes hill hill , Shane may end up playing 5 single matches (including one in first 5 matches tomorrow and the hill hill captains pick match) - probably the most by any player in history
