The WPA, like most sporting orgs. needs a czar, someone who is dictatorial and maybe even a bit of an ass. Having players giving input is ok but you really need a take-no-shit captain at the helm. I don't see anything like this at the WPA. Its nothing but a paper tiger run by a bunch of bureaucrats.

Agree totally. You need a no-shit boss or committee that makes informed judgements and has the balls to make them and stand by them.

I don’t see it as the tournament directors job to do this. I’m thinking more about the WPA consulting the players, particularly knowledgeable veterans, when the dust has settled.

It is the tournament director's job to run the event efficiently. The WPA has regulations in place for shot-clock operation if the TD chooses to implement one. The WPA does not mandate a shot clock.

(At carom the UMB does mandate a shot clock for some kinds of events.)

Yep, often a thankless job. I don’t know who the TD was for the WPC but it must be a particularly difficult job in that environment with no external repsonsibility to the venues, the sponsors, the broadcasters to motivate the players to play faster. If the players don’t have a responsibility to play faster then why would they?
