It was brought to our attention by our customers that there was a knock-off Wrap Fixture coming out of China, so I took it upon myself to order one. I thought I would give a review of the blatant copy of our product. This is after we had our videos (they put up) removed from Youtube.

Issue with the Fixture.
- Top plate rusted
- Machine overall looked to be used
- Top thumb screws would not screw into 2 holes - needs tapped
- Side set screw missing
- Wood spacers behind set screws for shims
- Machine will not cut in center of the cue when top plate applied to both sides
- Blocks that hold the cue centered - nylon and not chamfered
- Block stops protrude into where the cue rest. This will damage finish on the cue
- Template radii is not correct
- Complete copy of the Wrap Magic Fixture, along with OUR video on their website for learning to use the fixture.

You always get what you pay for!!

Please know the only retail stores selling the original Wrap Fixture is www.uniqueinc.com and www.atlasbilliards.com.

You can see pictures here.

Usually China does a better job than this of stealing our ideas. No doubt now that you have brought this to their attention they will fix a lot of it.

Have you seen how much better Perry's stuff has become once our community started pointing out the shortcomings?

No surprise really.. I will bet its not China that stole it and started producing.. I would guess someone from the USA sent to them for manufacturing... How much cheaper priced is the knock-off? Its got to be a lot since all they shipped you was junk..

Its true ... Unique's wrap machine is of the highest quality and does what it says ... produces extremely accurate center line cuts and greatly aids the wrapping process.
After using one for many leather wraps I would not even consider using something different.
I know this one works every time.

People have been to ask me if I could install a leather wrap for a while now. I have been avoiding it this knowing I needed more time before I was mentally ready to tackle a wrap. I have been focused on other cue building skills first.

I recently decided I was ready so I started researching as much as I could about the process. Wrap machine or no. That’s the question. Trying to be fiscally responsible I thought I would start by learning to do it the old-fashioned way. Plus, the more experience the better. I could decide after that.

Using junk cues, I fashioned a spacer to measure the length from a plastic ruler. Hobby Lobby had some inexpensive leather scraps I could practice on for $5 for 30 pieces. They were thicker than a normal wrap (0.045"-0.055”), but I was just practicing cutting the wrap to fit in the space, so it was ok if it was too high in the groove.

Happy with my first try. Not good enough for a customer, but proof of concept is promising. I didn’t secure the straight edge well enough so my seam, though not perfectly straight, did not have any gaps. I learned a lot on this one and after a few more I now know that, although I can do it and I would get better over time, I decided I want the wrap jig for peace of mind and efficient repeatability.

Looking around for my options I found the Wrap Magic right away and that is the one I saw most people using. The other ones out there seem to no longer be available. I also found the one in the link above. This one looked the same, but at half the price. I was already struggling to justify the cost, so this seemed like a good deal. I did not pull the trigger right away. I wanted to do more research. That is when I came upon this thread.

I posted in this thread because I wanted to add additional awareness to the cheap knock off which is still out there and bump it back up to the top.

I can do a janky job all by myself and save the $300. I bit the bullet and just placed an order with Unique. I would rather spend the extra to get a quality product and support the honest businesses and not those stealing ideas and selling inferior products.

Of course you can do them by hand, they were done that way for decades before Unique's fixture came along. I installed a couple by hand, customers were happy, but being a perfectionist I was never 100% satisfied with the results even after redoing one of them three times (that one cost me money!).

If you want 100% repeatable accurate cuts and flawless installs every time I don't know of a better way. You won't be sorry. Not cheap, but buy once and cry once. I've installed several wraps without any issues and the fixture still looks and works just like new. It pays for itself after 10-12 wraps.

The softer wraps are doable by hand but once you get into the textured print leathers like lizard and snake, you'll find they stretch or compress very little, if at all, and having exact cuts is super important. The softer ones will stretch or compress to give you 3 to 5 thou of leeway to make up for a not so perfect cut. I'm sure I could do a lizard by hand given enough time and material but I have absolutely no desire to attempt another one without the fixture.

Jim at Unique has been great to work with. I did find out the adjustable template I see everyone using in videos is not what comes with the unit. Many ways to measure the wrap groove, but I did like the idea. The unit set me back enough for now so I’ll have to wait on one of those. For the time being, I upgraded my $0.99 ruler to a diy measuring tool.

Well it has arrived and I put it to the test. I can absolutely say I have no regrets. This is a wonderful machine. It really makes the hard part easy. Still using the thicker leather so ignore that.
