Uncrowned Champion

My mother got me Jimmy's video as a young teenager. There were couple more videos but I don't remember what they were.

Great having you on AZB PBF!

can"t remember what kind of glasses, but remembered they wanted me to take them off for the interview, i refused, no wonder everybody dislikes me .

That is ok , Thanks for replying. That is cool you kept them on , Stylin and Profilin !!

I agree with you on most things, but there at least three if not more BCA Hall of Fame Committee members on AZBilliards. And I've been on the 5-man Veterans Committee for the last several years (Veterans is every other year). There's nothing politically motivated about the process. That being said, I will push for Mataya at the next Veterans Committee meeting. But we have other very worthy candidates as well, and everyone has their own thoughts on who should be eligible.

Freddie <~~~ let's go, Floyd!

I always smile, as I remember Scooter being voted in on St. Louie Roberts award. While he spent the week playing "Two Brothers and a Stranger". In his spare time robbing cash washes....

I don't put much faith in folks on committee.

In fairness, I haven't been around JM much, but apparently I was around the Pretty Boy Floyd.

Ken

If he doesn't get voted in it will be because of political correctness, not because he doesn't deserve it.

I grew up watching these videos while still in college, on the best format available back then - VHS - and have had every one transferred to dvd for my collection. I consider them all essential for any respectable list of “pool videos”. Period.

Jimmy was always a pleasure to watch - and still is.

Great work, and great contributions, Jim. You’re still appreciated, respected and loved by a lot of people, sir.

The Louie Roberts Award wasn’t voted in by a committee. It was totally an AZbilliards members-in-attendance voting. The committee simply gathered the votes. Scooter won by a good margin in his years.

That's it. I probably still have those in the attic. I might see if I can find them....I don't know why, I no longer have a VCR

I have them all.

“Billiards: the Basics and the Best” I believe was the first in the series. It had Sigel, Rempe, Lisciotti and Rempe. I already loved the game, but this hooked me for life.

Key Media produced these tapes. I think they still owe be $50.

I call bull$hit….

"Again, to the forum fans and billiards, it has been this committee’s honor and pleasure to name the annual Louie Roberts Action and Entertainment Award for the past 10+ years.

Initially what was started as a way to reward the excitement that action players brought to the green room, it quickly became one of the more sought after titles. For the first several years up until just two years ago, the winners of the award would have their photos hung high in the tournament hall, even higher than the tournament winners. The previous year's recipient would have his likeness next to the previous year's 1P, Banks, and 9-ball Champion.

However, as of last year, the award is no longer affiliated with Derby City Classic due to its going against the host casino sites bylaws as well as the Gaming Commissions rules.

As such, this year’s award and announcement is bittersweet, as this will be the final year that the award will be presented. We’ve had a good run, and all things must end. The spirit of the award was to highlight the action and its entertainment value in our world of pool. The winner’s image was showcased in the tournament room as equal if not higher (literally) than the other tournament champions. Of late, those winners are longer showcased at all. Unfortunately, it’s that’s same highlighting and glorifying of that gambling action that doesn’t sit well with the host casino site. One-on-one gambling is legal, but the side action that is counted and encouraged as part of the entertainment value is exactly what the Casino and Gambling Commission doesn’t want to see. So the long and short of it: 2016 will be the final year. Without the ability and fun of presenting the gambling side of pool as entertainment, the award has lost its spirit.

Bullshit to what? I was the committee head, and I counted the votes. Something confusing there?

Not that anyone else gives two $hits, but these are the people that gave votes for the DCC 2009 Louie Roberts Acition & Entertainment Award:

Robert Soyes
Tom Harris
Beav99_forLife
The_Saw
Dirty Bob
Stunner
Doug Patrick
GulfportDoc
hojokid33
Ragbug
Watchez
Slow Roll
Fatboy
Big Nasty
Roy
KtownD
JCIN

Scooter got 10 1st place votes, outdistancing everyone by a landslide. Jason Kirkus was 2nd, but nowhere near Scooter's count. Sparky Ferrel rounded out the top 3.

Half of the voters spent a lot of time around the TAR booth. Each voter could determine for themselves what entertainment in action meant to them.
