Personal Safety Thoughts When Returning To Pool Rooms

If you or someone in your household a high risk individual (high blood pressure, overweight, asthma, diabetes, suppressed immune system, etc) then I'd definitely steer clear. The virus isn't going anywhere unfortunately, so you're going to be waiting a long time until there's a vaccine.

I wonder if those who think the best place to catch the Covid thing is a Pool Room, also know how big a germ is? Then I would what else they will avoid in their live when Govenmemnt ask they to give up their Constitutional Rights.

Some already have.

I'm pretty far right but the bravado you're portraying is stupid brother. Are some events political, absolutely! Would the left like to see this take out "The Donald", of course. Do we need to pay heed to and protect our constitutional rights, hell yes.

But over-blowing is just wrong. This exercise is as much about figuring out germ warfare and surviving it, as anything else for us Patriots. :thumbup2:

Well the World is changing for the not so good. People are like SHEEP today. I love when someone say the word ISSUE, because of PC, they are told never to say Problem.

We can only try and educated people to what I call what our Constitution says, offer them a copy, or place for a free one.

Then maybe after education, they will see a little different. I tend to listen to people who I respect, if I have no respect & trust for someone. Well their someone who I do not respect.

Adam Schiff is lieing all the time, has lied in past, why would I listen to him.

Maybe you get it, maybe you do not. I still listen, think, and learn almost daily. I have very good memory, I do not forget.

It's been changing for a very LONG TIME. You're not edumacating me. :lmao:

What are you doing grass roots other than Forum talk?

According to projections by the end of May, pretty much all of America, and much of the rest of the world, will be at or near the end of the covid-19 related deaths from this initial wave.

I'm wondering what measures, if any, do you plan to use to try and stay safe when returning to our community pool rooms. I expect that the rooms will have some sort of social distancing guidelines but what about us as individuals?

Are you planning on doing anything above and beyond what the pool rooms do in an effort to stay safe?

best,
brian kc
Bottom line is, particularly for tournament play, the players that are just too worried about it won’t show up or play. Those that do choose to play trust that their fellow players are virus free and will not spread the virus.

Of course obvious measures can be taken, such as not shaking hands before or after your match. However, anything else like each player having / using a separate cue ball, or a separate person, with gloves, handling and racking the balls are just not feasibly possible to incorporate in to multiple matches at the same time.

As far as play outside of tournaments, obviously players will choose to play with people they feel comfortable with. The wiping down of a set of balls, ball tray, ball rack, table cloth surface, table rail tops, pocket bottoms, bridge stick, cue sticks, etc used between each set of patrons on a table is going to have to be done by the patrons themselves if they feel a need to so. The pool room could provide the necessary wipes, etc for the customer. I don’t think it’s realistic to expect that the employees / waitstaff will have the time to be able do that on top of their other normal tasks serving customers food / drink and thoroughly cleaning / sanitizing those areas dining between customers.

did all that the other day, the pool room provided disinfectant and towels. also keep a strict regimen for touching your mouth, for example if you're a smoker or use chewing gum etc. i think that goes a long way

if i was in a risk group i probably wouldn't go for a while though

Well stated, something for people with brains & open minds need to think about. People who get in a vehicles should understand most people who die in car crashes, are going over 35MPH.

Should we lower speed limited to a MAXIUM of 35 MPH, on any public road, or interstate in USA?

If this could save ONE LIFE?

My neighbor fell ill with covid a couple of weeks ago and I heard he said it almost killed him. I'm gonna get my home table set up soon, so I'll just play here...may have a friend over every blue moon if it feels safe. I will not be going to pool rooms until guidance from folks such as CIDRAP say it's safe...looks like that may happen in 18 months or so? Much depends on medical capacity. We will see. Be well fellas.

Edit:. My neighbor is a farmer, not like he is working retail. He managed to get sick from this thing...not exactly comforting.

I see quite a few folks, many foreign, driving ALONE with their mask on. I'd really like to ask them why. :banghead:

Once you put it on, est to not touch it until you are none doing whatever is on the days agenda. Not that crazy.

How do you know they are foreign?

That’s the point take it off when you are done with whatever you’re doing. If you take it on and off it defeats the purpose.

It sounds a little crazy. If you have COVID germs on your hands, does it really matter where you touch your face taking off the mask?

Play well, and play often my friend.

Yes,
I too agree -
I am out everyday -
i encounter NO ONE WHO HAS BEEN SICK WITH THIS VIRUS-
And I DO ASK PEOPLE TOO-
ANY OF YOUR FRIENDS OR FAMILES SICK- NONE "
I frequent the local health food supermarket and ask those folks-
anyone sick-
no"

Sounds like you're beginning to understand what's really going on....I've been studying Tavistock for many years, they have learned how to orchestrate a psychological operation that is beyond incredible!

Play well, and play often my friend.

Stop thinking about yourself. It’s not whether you are afraid or not. It’s about you can probably have the virus and you’re going around infecting everyone else. That’s the mentality we need to have.

Stay safe. Stay home.

Well...they could be US citizens or have dual citizenship. But I'd guess the vast majority are foreign born. The main tell is driving horribly. :lmao:

Defeats which purpose? And what makes you think they aren't "done" or just "beginning"?

When I reopen Salt City Billiards in Mattydale NY I'm going to:
-Sanitize chairs, rails, wall tables, balls, ball trays, racks and any house cues used
-Pull all house cues behind counter and hand them out.
-No bar seating at first.
-Clean common surfaces every couple hours.
-As long as the NYS face mask rule is active we will uphold it. I have over 200 N95 masks available to sell. ------Just bought 2 cases of hand sanitizer from a local distillery that started making it.
-We can't have bar service, so if alcohol sales are allowed it will be delivered table side. Bars are the last thing slated to open so restaurants or facilities with them can't use them.

I will keep social distancing which I can do with lost tables. May have to close a few bar tables in an every other table fashion, but the 9 footers have adequate room.

We will comply with any capacity restrictions. Most areas are permitting 50%, some as little as 25%. Fortunately we do fine with as little as 40 visits a day. Extremely low overhead.

With the Payroll Protection Plan I'm going to open regular hours when we do, since it covers staff. Crazy rule is the 8 weeks of paid payroll you get starts the day after you receive it. I got mine early on 4/20 a full month before we may even open. Lots of creative ways to handle it. My best employee, my wife, just got a raise and her hours are increased to 30 a week. Under the program when you are closed, you still pay staff. It isn't designed to help closed businesses much, just to keep employees off social programs. Program is not well thought out at all like most all of the governmental responses.

By the time things normalize we will be headed into June July and August...slowest months of the year. I never would have opened the room 3 years back unless I could keep extremely low overhead. I see all the rooms that are bigger, dependent on leagues with big numbers of people. I really fear we will lose many rooms over the next 6 months to a year. I'm safe for people trying to make a living off pool rooms. For me it is not about making money, just shooting the game how I can where I live.

I posted this in the other thread but here's my take:

The local APA is trying to resume with masks, gloves, limited attendance. We took a poll and our team declined even though we're in first place. My feeling is I go there to socialize, play competitive pool and maybe win and have some team fun and recreation. Walking in with a masks, gloves on to play a match doesn't sound like much fun or recreation.

I also know there will be jokers in the room who don't give a damn with a cowboy bandanna on their neck, laughing, talking and shedding without it ever coming up to their mouth or nose. Can't nobody tell them nuthin'.

Besides, my wife just had a cardiac ablation and is at risk. OK that's good but I sure as hell don't want to get it myself.

The pool room won't even change light bulbs and I can feel my feet sticking to the floor. So I'm going to trust them to sanitize and sterilize and tune the A/C system properly? LOL.

Pool is a germ laden endeavor, no thanks.

I think league pool will be very hard to do on anything more than a bar with a table or two. If you have a pool hall with 6 matches, that's 60 to 70 people in a small area. You aren't going to have the capacity.

I have 2 weeks left on my house bar league, just 6 teams so 3 matches a week. Even that I'm thinking I will divide over 3 nights when we resume. So a match a night , 3 nights a week for 2 weeks, then finals week with last 4 teams.
