I might try to return it only if I really did not like it, or thought it was not made right.
Why should a paying customer have to pay for something that was not made right, or that that were not satisfied with?
It's a bakery, not a car dealership. I feel for you that you cannot afford an extra $3 to buy a treat you like. Guess you didn't know baklava is sweet - it's phylo pastry, honey and pistachios. Should the owner be penalized because you didn't know what you were buying?
