Vernon Elliot "The Faceless Man" - Great Road Player, or The Greatest?

I always heard he was a ping pong player and magician too, but he stayed away from pool tournaments like Vernon Elliot.
Like the story George Rood told me. He beat some guy at pool when he was fairly young and the guy wanted to do something else. George proposed ping pong but it was not his best game. The guy, suspecting a trap, countered with a swimming race. George accepted the challenge. George was an alternate on the US Olympic swimming and diving team.

next we hit the golf links, where the tide turned!

It helps to be talented at something to steer them towards.

I loved ping pong and play Fuss Ball a ball under championship speed. Tennis was my best game and I "trapped" Johnny Archer and Tony Ellen up playing doubles, I was my own partner and they played together .....I had to guard the doubles and they guarded the singles court.

We. had a great time and I had barely outrun the nutz by the end, come to find out Tony was a Florida tournament player and I also played tournament tennis....next we hit the golf links, where the tide turned!
