RDS 100 CHALLENGE – Enter for Free and Win Prizes

Only "points" (not balls) left on the table result in deductions. In most of the 8-ball racks, you are not required to run out the non-chosen set, so those balls remain on the table with no penalty.

Thanks for checking though,
Dave

Apparently I should have spent more time reading the rules then back checking people's scores....lol.

I really do need to give this challenge another go.

Only 4 DAYS left to enter!!!

FYI, I just posted a new video demonstrating a score-based version of the Runout Drill System (RDS), consisting of a set of 16 break-and-run challenges of increasing levels of difficulty. In the scored version of RDS (RDS 100), you run through one rack at each level, starting with 100 points and deducting points left on the table after each miss or foul. Check it out:

As always, I look forward to your feedback, comments, questions, complaints, and requests. I also hope you decide to enter the Challenge and try to beat my 77.

Good luck,
Dave

PS: Official entries are due by August 31, 2020.

91.... You wouldn't believe how I managed to leave those 9 points on the table...lol

I can laugh about it now, but man it was hard to continue after dumping 7 points on the 9 ball rack. One of those 2 points I did score was off the break. Yep... real bad execution on than frame.

I took my time though, so hopefully I can manage the 1:22.16 vid upload within the next few days...

Cool! new leader! Great job! Those free points left definitely hurt, but 91 is tough action to beat. Excellent work.

Thanks... It was like the first time I even tried...

Ya no... Can't tell you how many swings I took at this early on. Walked away for a couple of weeks and took another crack at it this morning. I scrapped my earlier attempts if I dropped points in the early racks or it appeared as though I wouldn't get at least a high 80.

Don't have much patience for drills. I consider the fact that I managed to finish a win in it's self.

c’mon fool, nobody’s open
be startin contests time like this?
I think this was the best time to have such a Challenge. It gave all the people with tables at home something to work on. Also, many pool halls and bars have been open in different parts of the country. Regardless, in reality, the only people who have entered all the Challenges I've run over the years are the people with tables at home. I've always been disappointed by that because a lots of people say they will enter, but they don't (even when all the bars and pool halls are open). It is easy for people to talk the talk ... but they don't often walk the walk.

Regards,
Dave

Just thought I would post a quick summary of my experience with the RDS challenge. I probably tried this about 10-12 times. I’m posting this off memory alone. My scores ranged from 63 to 75. The 63 was one day before work and I was pressed for time so I was kinda rushing through it so I made a lot of mistakes. I had a couple of hi 60s and the rest of my scores were between 71-75.

Once I was perfect going into rack 14 and lost 21 points on the last 2 racks finishing with a 75. Today I decided to give the challenge one last try. I was 1 point down going to rack 14 and again finished with a 75. Out of all the times I tried the challenge only one time did I make it past the 4 ball in the last rack. It was in the video I posted where I missed the opening shot twice with ball in hand.

I wanted to break 80 but it just didn’t happen. I simply could not get a layout at all on the last rack. I thought surely I would get a decent layout at some point but I don’t know if I’m just that unlucky or I just suck at pool and got really lucky and made it to rack 14 8 times in the 90s and still never broke 80.

The challenge is tough or it was for me. A lot of the racks aren’t super hard to complete but keeping it all together till the end is. It takes roughly an hour to complete and no matter how easy the shots are it’s hard to go for a solid hour without a blunder. I know I left some points on the table at times. I’m sure almost everyone did. Breaking 80 was my goal but playing on a 9’ Diamond with 6 year old cloth is a tough task.

Congrats to all who finished the course.

I found keeping it together throughout all the levels difficult as well... The first handful are so easy that they disarm you for the more difficult later on imo. If someone cared to watch my video that I submitted, they may notice that I play all the 6 balls racks after lvl 2 in order even though it wasn't a requirement. This was to hold my focus and practice for lvl 10, which is when things start to ramp up a little.

I attempted this challenge at least 20 times at the minimum. The only one I finished completely was the one I submitted. I did early on think I had scored an 89, but I had missed doing the last lvl entirely...lol. I had high expectations for myself, and would just pull the plug after a dumb mistake and reset.

As with all challenges of this nature, it all boils down to controlling the break. I had the 6 balls down to a simple pattern. Same with the short racked 8 ball rule levels. I got a unfortunate roll on the 9 ball rules lvl, which resulted in trying to force difficult shape, and subsequently cost me 7 points. The 15 ball racks were about enough power to separate but not recluster. Keeping it in the fore front of my mind, that you have BIH after the break was the key. More than two problemed areas was unlikely to solve, but the odds are you aren't developing that many with less power.

I'd love to say I enjoyed it, but I didn't...lol. Frustrating the players is a sign of a good challenge I think.

Thanks Dave

Am I too late? I ran through it real quick and got a 40 something.

I haven’t been practicing much, but started messing around with this yesterday and man...I wish I had started earlier and actually tried for a high score. I might have been able to put up something competitive.

At any rate, just ran through it real quick before work to try and get in for the drawing. Hope I’m not too late!
