Ran local pool hall as young fellow. Got to short stop speed. Still hitting em some. Got the opportunity to buy the ” Arena Table “ at the Derby last year. To keep things honest and above board my name is David Johnson and currently reside in Poplar Plains, KY. I was the house man at the City Pool Hall in Morehead, KY in late 70’s and early 80’s. This was a great stop for traveling Hustlers and lots of action in those days.

Welcome David!

Hello Dave, and welcome.

You ever get over to the Owensboro area, where Nick Varner and the cuemaker Chad Carter reside?

No, I am in the eastern part of the state about half way between Lexington, Ky and Huntington, WV. Don’t get out too much because of the Covid drama
Would you happen to know of a guy named Tommy Sanders? He'd be in his 70s now. He lived in Cleveland for a while in the 1970s. He was from Kentucky and moved back from what I heard many years ago.

Hello David , I don’t know if you remember me but we Spoke at Big Blue in the Burg last year about Lane Jones and Mike King. You told me I could come and watch one of your Tournaments and I would like to take you up on that sometime. I found out last year I had Cancer so I have been sidelined for a while. Good to see you are aboard.

Yes Sir I would enjoy that. Let me know anytime my Friend. Thanks

This conversation is moving to slow. But as a welcome ambassador let me say that, its nice to see new blood on the forum.

A lot of dead weight around here.

Yessir i did, i think he might have been mentioned in Byrnes Book on break speed maybe.
Yes, I believe he was. I think he measured the break speed of a friend of his at 35 MPH which was way above any known breaker at the time. The guy was a martial arts expert.

Hi Mr. Johnson,

I happen to be reading a thread about the action at "the Rack" in Detroit, MI during the 70's. Maybe you will find it entertaining, too: The Rack in Detroit.

Maybe you can share some of your stories at the City Pool Hall in Morehead, KY during those heydays.
