Happy Veteran's Day !!!

U.S. Army 1966-72. 387th Transportation Division. I drove trucks/buses and worked in supply. I was happy to get out of the military with an honorable discharge in January, 1972. I will say this though. The basic and advanced training I went through at Ft. Polk, LA got me in the best physical condition I ever was in my life. I could run a mile in six minutes and carry a forty pound pack plus rifle on a ten mile forced march and be fine afterwards.

Driving a mid 60s ‘duece-and-a-half’ was how I learned to double-clutch. I assume omitting transmission syncro gears was a military cost-saving measure.
Re: ‘physical conditioning’: I learned in school about the guy who first broke the 4 min. mile. My first ever mile run in basic training (wearing combat boots) took 14 minutes! After 8 weeks, I was down to less than 7 min.
