how are ya'll doing in league ?

Well...I played a league match for the first time since March. APA 9-ball. SL7 vs SL7. My opponent had steamrolled our SL9 (he went down to a SL8 after that match) the last time we played that team so I wasn't feeling overly opportunistic to say the least.

I won 18-2. Fifty-five balls to his twenty.

Nine racks in 16 innings. Six safeties for me and two for him. I lost the lag and he broke, but he got to break only one other time after that. I was making a ball or two (three once) on EVERY break. I only missed two makeable shots in the nine racks.

I'm gonna be honest here....it felt good, I ought to quit playing 'cause I'll never play that good or win that big again.

I'm BACKKKKKK!!! (or at least I was for one night 😄)

Maniac

HAH 1st session of 9ball i play, i only got in 6 games
took a skunk patch and the mvp of the area lmao
and i lost 2 matches within those 6

Had a decent night at 8-ball a couple days ago. My captain put me up, and i saw the other team threw off, putting a very tough SL4 against me. I played fairly well, and he didn't plsy as well as I've seen him play before, so I got my 4 games and he only got one.

Then I found out he had recently gone up to a SL5 🙃 guess they didn't throw off after all...heh heh.

My wife (sl4) got a Rackless against a guy (sl5) in 8-ball Tri-Cups yesterday. The rest of the team didn't fare so well.

I'm proud of her and the way she's been playing lately. She beat another sl5 this past Thursday night 3 games to 1 and won her 9-ball match on Monday 14-6. So all-in-all, a pretty darn good week for her.

Went and played last night, team was short handed so I went, later in the evening. (trying to not be around any more people than I have to, high risk family members at home)

Played a fairly strong SL3. Except she was feeling no pain, so she wasn't playing as well as usual. That took extra patience and concentration, tuning out the distraction.

I shot pretty well, had the match in hand. Shooting for the 8 ball that would have won it for me. Fairly sharp cut to the side pocket. I wouldnt normally try that shot, for fear of scratching in the corner. (couldn't bank, ball in the way) My opponent had three balls blocking that corner pocket, so i said what the hell, try it. I made the 8. And as expected, the cue ball went towards the corner pocket. Hit one of hers in...and followed it right in. I was so angry with myself...i could've played safe. Couldnt possibly imagine that happening in a million years...cost me a 3-0.

I won the next game easily enough, so I didn't lose the match. Just had to shake my head at how that happened...

I missed this thread. After taking 2.5 years off from league (5 years of APA, went from SL 3 to 7/7, made solo national in 9 ball as a 7, one game away from Vegas as a team several times. We were the Buffalo bills of city cups.) I joined a singles laggers choice NAPA league. They started me as an 80 in 8/9/10 and played a guy last night who was a 105 in 8 ball. I won 4-1. He definitely missed shots I’m sure he would normally make and I played decent, but definitely should have lost another rack or two if he was playing well.

love the singles league, just people who love to shoot pool, no team drama or sitting up there til midnight. I will miss APA 9 ball. I loved that format for some reason. Nothing like playing a 3 who gets to 22 when you still need 20-30 balls and bearing down and coming back to win.

I like the Napa rules, having a push out in rotation is nice, wish they would add that to APA, they act like it is the most complicated rule. Only rule I hate is the safe down rule in 8 where you can pocket a ball and play safe at the same time. That is so dumb. Didn’t come up last night, but I just freakin hate that rule.

good luck everybody.

You simply can't beat the APA handicapping in 9B. Also, the APA Masters allows pushouts.

Played in our 9-ball division last night. First time in a long time that I became angry about a pool match. And all on me, not anyone else or any excuses. Just angry about how poorly I played. Missing shots very badly. Both attempts to pocket, and attempts at defense. Made 1 ball in the last 4 racks, and not because my opponent ran completely over me...I had opportunities. (He was playing better at that point, but still...)

I've been disappointed in my play, often. (If you played like me, you would get disappointed too, lol) This just pissed me off. I don't have to win, I just don't want to play like I did at the end of that match.

I used to react like that a lot when I was new to the game. I thought I had "matured". Obviously not. Sigh...frustrating game, this pool

LOL, I've had my days too. Generally, I will just tap my stick on the ground when not happy with my play. Not slam it but just hard enough to say "fuck me running". Actually, years ago (late 90's?) we were at a bar that only had carpet by the food tables and not by the pool tables. I was apparently near the edge and I did that and cracked the butt of my Huebler, you could hear the clink

Our league has been shut down until February. I'm actually OK with that, been pretty busy lately.

I'm actually thinking about not playing APA for a while, even after it opens up. As an SL9 I'm getting a bit tired of the grind of having to find players with SL's low enough where I can play consistently. I've played 11 matches in 2020! At some point it becomes not worth it. I would love to stick to Masters but there is a city league in town on Thursdays so we never have enough people for a session. Time will tell I suppose.

I certainly can understand the challenge of roster management to accommodate an SL9...we only have one SL9 in our division currently, likely part to that issue. I know there are a couple others, as well as some SL8's, that play APA in our area, just difficult to get them able to play. We have a goodly number of SL7's in 8-ball, obviously

My area was catagorized a "red zone", so league is officially suspended due to occupancy restrictions.

What consitutes a red zone...?...: "In order to be in the red zone, the positivity rate must be more than 10%, and there must be more than 100 people with the virus out of 100,000."

On the upside we took over 1st place this last Wednesday...lol

I havent posted in a while and axtually habent visited this thread for a few weeks.

I just read up on the new posts and gotta say i really enjoyed reading them.

As for me ? The usual up and down ....won a few games i should not have and lost a few i should not have.

A weeks ago on friday night i beat a 9 by 46-32. One of thise games i could do nothing wrong. Even my usual suck ass 9 ball breaks were working great.
About 45 minutes later we played 8 ball and he won 5-0 . i couldnt do nothing right...missed a few easy shots and mis cued about 4 times.

So 2 days later...sunday night i played another 7/9 in 8 ball . i won 3-2. Again i could do nothing wrong. Played some excellent safes and didnt miss anything i should not have. The 2 racks i lost were due to a poor safe leaving him a shot on his last ball and he broke break and run the next rack.

Forgot to mention i played their 5 in 9 ball and lost by 2 points. Never should have lost but made a few dumb mistakes . again ...didnt play as good as i did the first match.

Well i hope to keep this short about last night. Ashamed to say i lost my cool and went off on damn near all my team mates. 2 players said they were showing up early and wound up a half hour late and i couldnt throw who i wanted when i wanted. Its the last night if the session and every one finally decides ...hey we got to get 2 players eligible for playoffs...both needing 2 matches of 8 ball and one of them needing 2 matches of 9 ball.

Every one kept buggin me about making it happen. I. Was too the point of not giving a shit and told them all just as much but relented and made it happen with the other captains blessing. Do yall have any idea how hard it is to have 2 players play 4 8 ball matches and one of those play 2 9 ball matches and still get out before closing time ?

That's on top of having to keep dragging in people to play or keep score due to being outside smoking. The county just initiated a no smoking rule last week.

So i was not a happy camper by the time i wound up playing 9 ball vs a 7. It started out ugly due to he decided to play like a pro or something. At one time i was down 33-6. When it was all said and done he won 55-30. I was not happy about that at all but upon reflection i could take some solace in the fact that from being down 33 - 6 i scored 24 points to his remaining 22 points. It seemed the more i was comimg back the more i put pressure on myself until i made a dumb mistake and he got back to the table and ran out the remaining balls for the win . Actually i am surprised i some how kept my head in the match as well as i did with all the headaches i had witj the team.

I must be a glutton for punishment taking on a captains role.

Well we secured our 3rd straight Big Dawg title with a week to go. Up 16 points on 2nd place going into the last week is a great feeling...especially since I had to split my team 7 weeks ago...I like to win!

Speaking of, with battling covid and trying to get 4 new members enough matches, I only played 9 matches this entire session, winning 7 out of 9. The biggest thing for me is that 6 of those wins came against sl 6's or 7's...so at least most of my few matches were against good competition!

Now we get to relax through playoffs and tri cups...and focus on winning the big dawg again in the spring...that really pisses off the other teams trying to get qualified!:)

My crap te played a top team that's been around for 4 yrs, and won tricups every time, won tricup Saturday
all good very competitive players, so when I played with the captain, he said he's going to scoop me up next session, since members of the team want to sit this one out because of covid, I was very flattered

I forgot to mention during my lil tant in my last post that i did apologize to my team after the matches were over but i did say things need to change

Playoffs started this week. My first sunday team came in first in both 8 and 9 ball and go straight to tri cups.

My second sunday team qualified for both 8 and 9 playoffs. In 8 ball i faced a 6 and it was a 4-5 race with me going to 4. I won the toss and broke dry. He ran the table. I won the next 4 racks in a row in 6 innings with safties played ny me in 2 of those innings. We won 9-4 and move on to tri cups.

I then faced a 7 in 9 ball. As usual it started out ugly for me. Dry breaks from me and leaving him decent. Dry breaks from him and leaving me hooked resulting in bih for him. When it was all over i won 46-54 in a 46-55 race. We lost 51 -49. Real tough loss .

I looked at the score sheet later and at one point i was down 47-28. I guess i caught a gear after changing my break. From that point on i scored 18 points to his 7. That was a real tough match .

I will find out in a couple days if my friday team...the one i ranted about earlier makes playoffs this friday.

Gonna talk about cues for a minute. 3 team mates of mine have bought becue shafts for their butts. One sold a revo and put a becue on his predator butt. Like wise another team mate replaced his z2 with one. The other replaced his black dot on his meucci butt and they all swear by them.

I had thought about getting one for a few months but was also thinking i need another shaft like a snail needs air brakes.

I noticed a couple player talking with the room owner and he was showing then some becue shafts. Mistake on my part by watchimg them. I asked him if he had one that would fit on my mcdermott. Lo and behold he did and i bought it .
Maybe i am crazy but i took that becue and played both my playoff matches with out ever hitting a ball with it first. I gotta tell you .i shot damn good with it. . i guess the meucci carbon pro is going in the closet now lol.
