how are ya'll doing in league ?

JMHO, but in my years (15) of APA 9-ball experience, it seems to me the handicaps tilt slightly in the favor of the lower skill-level players.

For instance, I'm a SL7 in 9-ball. I literally dread it when the opposing team puts up a SL4 or SL5 against me. Spotting the SL5 seventeen balls and considering the fact that many 5's are capable of running a table out at any given moment, it makes me a bit concerned.

Then there's the SL4's. Spotting them twenty-four balls....ugh! I don't know how it is in your league area, but in mine, it seems like the majority of players that are under-rated are SL4's. Hard to beat them.....must keep errors to a bare minimum.

I'd rather play a SL8 or SL9 if I cannot get matched up with a SL7 like myself. Even if I get my a$$ handed to me, It's still very educational enough to where I may pick up on a shot or two for future reference.
I'm a SL5 and I enjoy playing the SL7's. (Or SL8's or 9's) I don't beat them very often, but its a fun match, and if i limit my mistakes, I have a chance. In 8-ball its fun too.

Well guys we have an interesting situation going on in our area right now.

Shelby county "memphis " shut down our pool halls due to the virus. I really dont understand this because as far as i know they were both following all the county guidlines.

So our league operator has apparently been burning the midnight oil in an effort to keep us playing. They have moved the team down to Mississippi and have staggered starting times to accommodate a helluva lot of teams.

The funny part of this is that both venues in mississippi that we are playing at is located just a couple of blocks from the shelby county line.

Well to be honest i was not exactly thrulled with the move because in my opinion these places are not on par with the pool halls i have been playing at.

I have not played at either of the locations in miss in quite a while and was surprised to find out one had changed ownership and also had reverted back to smoking allowed which i thought had been banned by the county some time back. Not sure about the status of the other location bit will find out today when i play there.

They have been doing a lot of jughling around with the startimg times also to accomodate only having a few teams at a tume playing.

Now the real surprise is that my other team will play at a bar in shelby county today that has 6 tables. Wtf ??? Our pool halls are closed but a bar remains open ? ??

So how have i done lately ? Last sunday i lost both 8 and 9 ball to guys i never should have lost to. Just didnt have my head in it last week.

Last night was quite the opposite...nothing new with me lol.

Won 9 ball vs an 8 by 46-50 in a 46-65 race.

Won 8 ball 4-2 in a 4- 4 race.

Thursday night, playing 9-ball, was one of my worst matches in a long time. Just couldn't make a ball. Playing a young lady who is a strong SL4, and she didn't give me a break, just made the most of her opportunities. No shame in my losing a match to her, but plenty of shame in getting killed...just one of those nights, I suppose. Pretty discouraging.

I know what you mean dub. Pretty discouraging sometimes . they call it the equalizer system for a reason. Your best game against an opponemts best game at a difderent level should be a close match.

I am a 6 and just hate it when a 4 beats me 18-2 in 9 ball and i know an 8 hates it when i beat him 15-5 the followimg week.

Man, I've got a lot of reading to do :)

I actually played a league match last night, I think September or October was the last time? Either way, I haven't practiced at all since then, maybe 50 games in total, most just me banging balls around.

I show up and their captain, someone I get along with very well, asks me if I'm playing and I say yep and he says, alright, I've got a secret weapon for you. I just laughed and said bring it on! As the first match is wrapping up I go chat with the other captain and I asked who the secret weapon was and he just shrugged his shoulders, I just laughed again and started walking away and he says "It's my 1", I turned and said an SL1? I thought maybe he was joking or maybe it was a 1 who should be a 2, a good 1 can pocket 14 balls pretty quickly compared to my 75 so at first I told him I haven't played in months so I'd probably lose and if I do I'll sign the patch so he threw up his SL1!

This is the first serious match, other then taking my buddies lunch money last weekend, I've played and my stroke and speed were 100% out of whack. It was so bad the first few games I'm surprised I won, but their 1 was a true 1 and once my stroke decided to join the game it wasn't much fun for him, a felt pretty bad but we had fun. I had another rackless night, I won 75-5 with 1 bnr, 1 break and a run to 4-9 combo, and 1 9OS, my last four games were pretty good and I'm pretty sure his 5 balls came in the first 3 or 4 racks.

Felt good at the end so I'm pretty hyped about playing pool again, now I can't wait for our challenge league to begin :)

Our 8ball has done good the last few weeks
Getting 10-4 wins over 2nd and last night 1st place teams,
We should be in second now, and have a good outlook to take 1st place

The first place team last night however we noticed they don't keep track of safes and just count each game as 4 innings, when ours we count safeties and a few games went over 4 with defensive shooting

Im on a month long win streak

The lo doesn't even pay much attention to the things anyways,

My first Bnr on the season (8ball) I get a patch , nothing on the app, my second, I get one on the app, no patch lol, I wanted to slap those bnrs next to my skunk patch, whatryagonnado??

We're in first place now, we've got a pretty good team so me and my buddy (an SL8 and the guy who I'm starting the challenge league with) are thinking about sticking it out instead of leaving at the end of this session.

We actually won last night even after a forfeit and a loss (54-41?), last week we won 3 matches but lost 2 and lost the night by 2 points  .

For patches, I don't even know how to get them anymore, I'm sure I've got an envelope of them somewhere, I do remember something about them going to one bar in town, I'll have to look that up.

If I were you, just contact the LO for the patch :)

Lol we have already, several times, the guys out there!

I just want my stats correctly taken so I can get as high as I can, I beat the piss out of all the 5s I play, and I'm still a 5 lol at 8 ball

minus one who's been said to keep their numbers down on purpose,
Lots of that going on in htown

LOL, that sucks. As much as I'm tired of the grind of APA I will say this - we absolutely have two of the best LO's I've ever dealt with. They like to play favorites sometimes but other then that they're spot on...👍

And I don's sweat sandbaggers, I'm not the one who has to sleep with them at night.

Oh, and I remembered how bad I was shooting in the beginning of my match.

I missed the SAME 2 ball with BIH - TWICE! Yep, twice. He missed, I got BIH, missed and he scratched trying to make the 2 again so I get BIH and MISS! LMAO. I was trying to go around the table 3 rails for a breakout but either way it was brutal. lol.

The way I've played the last few times has left me really wondering if I seriously want to keep playing...very discouraging. Not just the pool, but everything else as well. When its a struggle to just get to play, it wears on you.

This too shall pass. I just wish my game didn't suck as badly as it has lately.

Agreed. My play was fine back in September it was the grind of league that got to me, this little break helped though.

Well guys this might be one if my longest posts to date. So much went down during our 8 ball tri cups this weekend and really dont know how to make it short lol.

I wound up having 3 teams qualified for this. For clarity i will number them.
1. Friday team i am captain of
2. Sunday team i am captain of.
3 sunday team i am not captain

Again trying to make this short. Teams 1 and 2 went undefeated to the finals whuch really surprised the heck out of me. Then we folded like an accordion and i probably exacerbated the situation by folding myself due to drama that transpired between me and a certain captain and some complaints i had with the league operator.

Now let me say the league operstor did a great job and i understand his back was against the wall in trying to run this tournament within the guidlines set by the county due to the virus. I really inderstand him trying to best the clock before the poolhall had to close but having my 2 teams which had 5 common players play on 4 tables at the same time against 2 other teams that were just olaying on 2 tables was a logistical nightmare for me in getting the matchups i thought were best for us.

Then after i threw myself against another 5 my 7 takes it upon himself to throw a 3 against a 7 which got me highly irrigated. Its like he wanted us to lose. Especially since he wound up throwimg himslf against a 3 next match and lost.

Team 3 had its own brand of drama which i am guilty of initiating due to a tram mate. He cant help him self but to jump up and call time out on any body and every body it seems like . dont get me wrong he is a good player but i cant stand his trying to exolain to every one else how to play the game. Twice during my match with a 6 he jumped up and started to call a time out and i told him to sit down. I was up 3-1 in a 4-5 race and had run down to my last ball and was standing there focused on what i wanted to do and the next thing i know he was standing beside me and had called a time out.

Well fellas that really pissed me off. Got me out of my game and i lost hill-hill. Every one could tell i was visibly upset and it really showed the last rack where i raked the balls ala earl strickland after missing a shot leaving my opponent on the 8 .

My captain asked what happened and i just walked away to go to teams 1 and 2.

Later team 3 team mate faces a 7 that i had beat 3-3 on team 1 and loses 5-1. I tell the captain thats what pissed me off..a player that thinks he is all that and tries to tell me how to play loses 5-1 to a guy i beat 3-3 .

So in summation...it was one helluva weekend .

Oh...almost forgot to mention an opponents wife getting in between me and her husband after he gets all upset and didn't bseem to be taking it too good losing to me. One incident was he got pissed on a supposedly foul by me which i did not see and didnt call on myself. ...mainly because i did not see it and he was visibly pissed already by losing to racks to me before the supposed foul. Each rack he lost he wss slamming the balls in the rack while racking. Then the icing on the cake was when he made a shot on his last ball and hit my ball with his hand while stroking and my ball moved a couple inches locking uo the 8. He wanted to move it back and i told him to leave it there. ...only because he was being such an ass. That really set him off.

Ahh..good times at the pool hall where all the good sportsmanship and camaraderie goes out the window during a city qualifier.

Plenty more crap happened but you get the idea.

Our Monday is cancelled,
There was a pile up in forth worth and now wintery conditions of 30is deg temps are life threatening to Texans :cautious:
