If you have more than one playing cue, do you alternate? or how do you choose.

For example, I have one shaft that I mainly use for player cue, but then I have 3 butts, not all the same pin however I got some joint adapter which I can connet and still put on my shaft.

Now they all play differently by miles even though it is the same shaft/tip, however, I just like to alternate between them depending on mood or if I want light or even forward heavyish.

Although I like to alternate, I think that this is preventing me from progressing in fact I feel that sometimes I should stick to one butt as I feel my game is even going down as I swap to another butt the feel is gone, because the fact of they feel so different in play even if the shaft is the same.

How about you, for those that own more cues, how do you pick which one to play with?

I’ve used the same cue and type of tip for 14 years. Should last me another decade. With the exception of a few overseas postings and work contracts, 4 cues over the last 52 years.

I collect cues and might try one for 15 minutes on my table now and then but just for ‘fooling around’.

My baseball glove is even older then my cue. It just ‘feels right’.

I have played the same Viking F50 for many, many years. I ordered it highly customized with blue pearl and my name scripted on the butt of the cue. I just can not come up with a reason NOT to play with it every time I play. I ordered it with a second shaft with a hard tip that I have never even chalked. I guess that was a waste of money but at the time I thought I might find value in changing from a medium to a hard during a match based on conditions. I just never needed it. I also own a Lucasi Big Beulah2 break cue that I use every rack and have very much enjoyed. I have never broken a rack with my Viking. Maybe that's why it is still in such great shape. I own, and never play with, a Meucci HOF cue. It's a great stick, and rarely I will play with it for a game or two but otherwise it just rests. I have 2 Action cues and 1 McDermott Lucky cue for "House Cues" when guests come over and I have never really played with any of them myself.

I have been breaking out some different cues in the last few weeks.

My Becue, McDermott, Murray Tucker, Mike Gulyassy, and two Jackpots.

Tomorrow I will break out my A. E. Schmidt that I had made in 1973.

Break out? do you mean literally breaking the cue i.e. shattering it? if that's the case I'd mercifully request you to ship it to me instead, ill take good care of them :D

LOL.

They need some air.

They are getting too much time being stored in their cases.

Some of my cues are around 50 years old and one is around 70 years old.

I play with them and break with them.

None of them have ever been damaged and they all look almost as good as new.

The cue in the picture above has broken thousands of racks of nine ball and it does not even have a nick.

When I go to the pool room I only take my player and unless a new tip is getting put on I always use the same shaft. In my garage is another story. Typically there I’m a little twisted on rum or wine so I won’t use my Mobley for fear of screwing it up so I usually play with an old Meucci. I have that one with the shield on it, and I love that thing. One night I couldn’t make anything with that so I broke out the JW, still couldn’t make anything so I used the McDermott. Still no luck so I tried a sneaky pete or two, a Heubler and then a few cues I actually forgot I still owned. And guess what, I still couldn’t make a ball. Turns out it’s not the arrow it’s the Indian. And this Seminole can’t shoot for shit when the Zacapa starts flowing.

Wow, that’s a nice cue, remind me of my early Huebler, which makes sense.

I switch cues a lot, I just like different cues. It takes a bit to adjust, since they all play different, but I don’t think it hurts too much.

I used mix it up regularly but found that if I spend longer periods of time with cues, like a month, I tend to bond better with them.

That way when I do switch it doesn’t feel like a fresh cue. It’s like revisiting a familiar face.

I have 3 different cues, same maker, but I play the same CF shaft / weight so they virtually all play the same. I just enjoy the variety of the butts - cocobola, bocote, Purple Heart.

This is a smart way of doing it, if you dont mind who's the maker of your butts :)

If I'm going to a snooker hall and there are pool tables available, I'll stick my pool cue and my snooker cue in the same case. The only problem is that it's a Halo case with only two slots, so I have to carry my extensions, chalk and tip equipment in a separate bag.

Been playing with one cue only for awhile now even though i have a pretty deep selection of hitters. Big shaft and a milk dud tip. 186 inlays.
