Adam cue made by Dufferin?

These are not my pics, but here is something that I have never seen before.

An Adam cue that appears to have been made by Dufferin, for Adam.

Just thought that was interesting. Never seen an Dufferin made Adam cue before.

Looks to have a 3/8x10 joint pin on it too.

It’s probably because Dufferin is Chinese owned now..Adam has been farming things out for a while.
 
I have not seen that one before, but I do own the original Dufferin version of that cue in mint condition- my Dufferin version has vibrant colors in the butterfly splice and the red maple leaf in the glass window with "made in Canada" clearly stamped on the rubber bumper. The Dufferin version of this cue has the joint screw in the shaft and what I like also about this Dufferin version is that, unlike most of their two piece cues from that era, this one is a wood to wood joint, no aluminum material in the joint. The original Dufferin cue is not a 3/8 10 pin in the shaft - It is a smaller diameter pin in the shaft; with either 14 or 18 turns to the inch- not sure . The hit is very pure on these cues- as I am sure you will find with that Adam. The original Dufferin is a 57 inch cue and has a thicker butt handle area. Nice cue!

I would also be curious to know if Dufferin did make these cues for Adam as it appears to be so similar.

No, I think that is surely a Canadian made Dufferin. Everything about it tells me that it is an old Dufferin sneaky, other then the out of the ordinary joint pin, and the Adam logo under the glass, instead of the Dufferin logo.

The Dufferin cues from China have been very different then the cues that Dufferin made when they were made in Canada.

I have had a very similar Green Leaf Dufferin, with the piloted 5/16x14 joint on it, which I thought was a very out of the ordinary joint for a Dufferin sneaky, because they usually have that unique Dufferin pin sticking out of the shaft section.

That case, if paired with that cue is more representative of an Adam or Dufferin cue that came from old stock Japan (Adam) or Canadian (Dufferin) cues. However, the 3/8 10 pin seems unusual to me for this as a stock cue from Adam.
 
Almost all of ADAM cues have been made in China for quite a while. Only the Musashi and a couple Mugen's are still made in Japan. Same factory in China makes Lucasi, Dufferin, Players, Predator and others. Lucasi and Dufferin are both owned by Cue-n-Case. This cue looks like a fairly recent Chinese ADAM.
 
Here is my Dufferin original from CANADA-- wood to wood joint! MINT condition! There is BEM inside the splice too! I love this example of original Dufferin cues where the wood to wood joint helps the play tremendously and the BF splice and BEM addition help to make it a classic Dufferin. Look close and you can see the "made in Canada" stamp on the rubber bumper. I checked- the shaft pin is 14 turns to the inch and it is a 57 inch cue. The cue butt and shaft accept 5/16- 14 JPs. It has a thicker butt handle as well. At a perfect 19 ounces- the BEST playing Dufferin EVER! NFS;);) - Unless of course you simply MUST have it- then fire away!

I do really think that this cue is not a Chinese made cue. I believe that it is an original Adam cue - just not sure if it has any connection to Dufferin other than it looks very much like the original Dufferin that I showed above in my photos. Anyhow- I just bought it- on a lark- so when I get it I will be able to tell immediately who made it- that cue case usually goes with cues made way before Adam went Chinese - and I believe that the seller acquired the cue and case together- both appear close to mint- closet cue- just like my original Dufferin as in my photos- it too was a closet cue never used for it's entire life sitting somewhere in a closet from original purchase.

I have a few cues from the 80s 90s that were mint condition closet cues with these very same cases and they were purchased on eBay for next to nothing- all turned out to be excellent quality players - they make great bar cues!

Dufferin was almost exclusively 14 thread....some 18, some the old aluminum big thread...but no 3/8 10.
...very interested what you feel when you get the cue....Dufferin basic stock turns up in many places..
....but they’re usually custom by then.
 
I confirmed that this was indeed an estate find- with that cue in that case it is most probably an original Adam Japan- anxious to see it next week.

How will you know its Japan made? I know ADAM always put a 'Made in Japan' sticker on almost all their cues. If its gone how would one tell where it was made? Most current ADAM and all Dufferins come from same Chinese factory. This cue has what looks like exact same bumper that's on current Dufferin house cues.

Well, I don't know anything right now except that I own it :) he accepted my $75 offer from his $150 original buy it now- I hope to have it by Thursday. My original Dufferin" made in Canada " BF cue- which the photos are posted up above- also has that same bumper-only with "made in Canada" stamped on it.

I am also starting to think that this cue I just purchased- the ADAM- may have been made by Dufferin Canada for ADAM- if that rubber bumper has a removable rubber center and if the screw holding the bumper matches my Canadian cue- with a square head - that would be one clue. I can also inspect the glass window and the butterfly splice to see if they are a match in certain ways to my Canadian Dufferin- that would be another clue.

Maybe this cue that I just purchased is nothing more than a Chinese ADAM copy of the original Dufferin butterfly cues - But maybe it is a very rare find of an ADAM Japan cue made by ADAM Japan or made by Dufferin Canada for ADAM Japan - it was worth $75 to me to satisfy my curiosity- I think that I could always sell that cue and case to someone for my $75 if it is not what I am hoping.

The 3/8 10 pin is, to me, the big mystery here, was a new shaft made for this cue and the original butt joint altered- well it was an estate find in Nevada according to the seller- so maybe the answer literally lies buried somewhere now. And that case - I never see mint condition looking cues in mint condition looking cases like that unless they are 80s to mid 90s cues.

So I am just having some fun with this one- just one of my many interests and hobbies- thanks to all for sharing your thoughts- much appreciated:)
 
Although it looks like a Dufferin, is there any mark on the cue that says Dufferin? I have a cue that has the mark Crown by Dufferin

Which retailer still sells Adam cues?

Yeah, this is a very odd cue. It just looks so unusual, and even more unusual that it has a 3/8x10 Pin. Here is an Adam sneaky pete, that I am sure is from China, that looks completely different.

Adams Sneaky Pete Pool Cue (billiardwarehouse.com)

No butterfly splice, 5/16x18 joint pin, and no Adam logo behind a clear window, like in the old Dufferin sneaky pete cues.

Here is another Adam sneaky, that is clearly a far higher quality cue then the one in the above link, and again completely different then the one I posted pictures of.

Here is another Adam sneaky that does have a very similar rubber bumper, but again, no Adam logo under the clear glass window.

I just can't imagine the Adam manufacturer from China trying their best to copy the original Canadian made Dufferin sneaky pete cues.

Whoever made it, I think it looks super cool.

That is great that you were able to get it for $75. I believe that it is a Canadian made Adam that Dufferin made, because it just looks so similar to those original Dufferin cues, and I see that the newer Chinese Adam sneaky pete cues look nothing like that one.

I would like to add that I have seen Dufferin sneaky pete Snooker cues, that I believe were made by Dufferin of Canada, for various English Snooker brands, which I see from time to time on the UK Ebay site.
 
Another thing that I will be doing is measuring the full actual length of the cue- the original Canadian Dufferins were 57inches without the bumper, I believe that all Chinese ADAMS and Dufferin are 58 inches without the bumper. The e bayer listed the cue at 58 inches- but most non cue guys include the bumper in their measurements and that is a one inch bumper.
 
When did ADAM-Japan make any cues for Dufferin? Never heard of that being done. Just because it has a butterfly butt style with a window doesn't mean Dufferin Canada had anything to with it. Lot of guessing going on here. Its either: A. A Japanese ADAM or B. A Chinese ADAM I don't think Dufferin-Can. had anything to do with it. BTW, since about '04-'05 every Dufferin and almost all ADAM cues have been Chinese built. Same factory too.
