2021 World Snooker Championship

Hard see Hendry returning next season unless he’s given some financial incentive. However, the mystique is now gone.

He already said he would be back next season and playing in more events. I think he might be able to justify his performance on the fact he didn't really play much this season.

Yeah, the interview's I've seen scattered around seem to back that up, he's said a few times that because of COVID he didn't get to put in the preparation he had hoped and that this year was too early. So his goal is to return to the Crucible next year.

I would suggest his best route to doing that probably involves playing in some of the smaller tournaments where he stands a better chance of getting through a few rounds (Gibraltar open, Indian open, if its on etc.)...but I suspect he has grander plans than that and may do the exact opposite!

From the all-knowing Wiki:

Only three qualifiers have ever won the tournament: Alex Higgins in 1972, Terry Griffiths in 1979 and Shaun Murphy in 2005.

... but I doubt that they had to come through as many rounds as someone at the bottom in the current format.

i was surprised to see bingham having to qualify this year, but since he is, this might be a year where a qualifier wins the championship. he is smashing in centuries right now, two 140's in a row today against brecel

he is always an outsider, odds tend to be high, think i might bet on him to reach the final this year

What happened to Selby? He is now 4th favorite. Wasn't he #1 or top 2 or 3 some time ago?

Nothing really, Neil won the most recent comp and then you have the defending champ and world number 1, so 4th on paper is probably correct.
Selby was #1 for quite a while. From the Wiki That Knows All:

Selby lost the top ranking position to O'Sullivan on 24 March 2019,[161] having been world number one since February 2015.

His semifinal against O'Sullivan in the World Championship last year was a dramatic loss.

Yeah that was 2 years ago, though! He hasn't had a recent dip in form, he's been consistent. His current seeding of 4th for the WC is reasonably fair, but frankly any of those top 5 could beat each other on their day anyway.

In the US, it looks like the stream of the Championships will be from DAZN. They will also cover the World Pool Masters towards the end of May.

I've been satisfied with their stream. They seem to archive some events for a brief period, so I can do a time zone shift, but mostly you need to watch live. If I were into cricket, boxing and egames it would be awesome.

Draw is done. Starts this Saturday
For those interested in tournament admin.... The top 16 are in standard seeded positions. The #1 seed is the defending champion, O'Sullivan. The other 15 are according to the two-year ranking list (ranking event earnings). The 16 players who came through the qualifiers were drawn randomly. Here is the video of the drawing:

Schedule for the first few days

Looks like the 2 bigger matches for tomorrow are Ronnie (2 sessions) and Robertson v Wenbo
Ronnie is always vulnerable early on. I picked Robertson the last 4 World’s. Zero for 4 so might as well go for an even 5.

On the positive side there is such a depth of talent that anyone of a dozen players winning would not be a major upset. I have Robertson versus Bingham in the final.

....
The horse's mouth for the schedule and scores is the World Snooker Tour website. They will have minute-by-minute live scores of all the matches.

If you click on "Scores" there, you go to a separate site that does the scoring. Here are the sessions listed for tomorrow:

5 hours earlier for the East Coast and 8 for Pacific. I'm not staying up until 2AM or even getting up then. Hopefully DAZN will allow a delayed stream.

(Edit: Well that's pretty neat -- the links to their bios came through with the cut and paste.)

i'm glad to read that cause i bet bingham (each way bet). going by qualifying form rather than season results. not to mention age..

How are you watching it on Matchroom.live? Are you in another country? Subscribed Americans are banned. Maybe you have a pirated stream.

That's a good question. I'm in America. This is what shows under my account details, and I don't know how it could be a pirated stream since I'm on the Matchroom.live site.
