Pawn Stars

Relentlessly looked for pawn shop cues when I lived in Vegas, never found squat there. :p

Pawn Stars is a scripted reality show, great for tourist visiting Las Vegas, they can go to shop and buy a Pawn Stars T-Shirt. Rick has friend in T-shit Biz I bet.

Most Pawn Shop is the pace were some Pawn Broker lend you money on something of value for pennies on dollar of value hoping you do not pay back over priced loan. Stuff in Pawn shop that is smoking deal, are few, and far between. Most Pawn Broker know shi old, from Doo Doo.

Buddy was Pawn Broker in Gold Country, CA. His deal was to lonn as little as possible to people w2ith no credit, in a pinch for money. Hope they never came back, and to sell their stuff for big profit.

Ah Cowboy, it is fun to look. Have found enough smoking deals to keep me going back!

Don't forget about antique shops. I found a 100+ year old set of balls worth probably $1000 for $45. My brother picked up a McDermott dice cue for cheap, too.

I met Rick in Newton, Iowa a few years ago. Maybe I mentioned it then?

He held the door open for me and my wife and gave us a big smile and a nice hello. We were just getting some coffee and Rick and some politician had just held a "rally" there (that we just missed, thank God).

I thought he was an old classmate whose name I couldn't remember, but later on we realized who he was. I should have asked him for a loan. Dang.

I like the show, but it does burn me out after a short while.

Can’t stand pawn shops and their predatory m.o.. Few legal or illegal industries have a lower standard of ethics.

I’ll take Antiques Roadshow over this program any day.

I don’t understand why all the sellers don’t just get the provenance and appraisal, decline the offer, and sell the item on eBay using the show as free publicity.

It's all scripted. These people aren't just visiting and happen by. The show flies them out there after scouring Craig's List, Penny Saver, Thrifty Nickle, etc. from all over the country looking for items of historic interest. The price is agreed upon beforehand.

It's so phoney. Pawn shops make money underwriting loans. Contrary to what Coco says, they want the customer to come back. They want to keep the loans open as long as possible.

Met the old man and Rick long before the show. I bought a lot of stuff from them back then. I'd roll in and the old man would be sitting in front of the big safe and right away he wanted to talk about watches and show me what he had tucked away. They were good guys and I think Rick is still a good guy although too popular now. I saw Cory very little back then and I was there when Rick was just getting the show deal and setting up the new cases but I never made the connection or I might have tried to get in on it. I doubt Rick remembers me even though I bought a lot of watches from them.

It's the same reason people donate to famous youtubers. They get 15 minutes of fame and get to fanboy over an entertainer they like.

LOL, agreed. I rarely watch regular TV and generally just watch YouTube and Netflix. After a while you'll start to notice comments from the YouTubers about regular commenters, etc. - those are the fanboys. And I'm pretty sure those fanboys are fanboys of regular TV also, a Fanboy does YouTube not create (a little Yoda speak).

There are many channels on YT I watch just like regular TV only they aren't actors and there's no paycheck at the end of the week. I have donated to exactly 3 content creators but not because I'm a fan boy (I could care less about meeting them) but because they have provided me years of entertainment for free so I felt like I should give back so bought a couple of t-shirts and a CD, nothing wrong with giving back ;)
