Wow, If all of today's matches are as exciting as Grabe vs Filler, we're in for a treat. Filler had to negotiate a tricky shot at 4-4 in which he'd pocket the seven and, going two rails, break up the clustered eight nine. He just barely missed the cluster and left himself with a safety that would have even challenged Efren Reyes, the greatest defensive player nine ball has ever known. He wasn't up to the task, and Grabe gained a 5-4 lead. Grabe had a good look at a runout to reach 6-4, but made an error on the six, hooking himself on the seven, enabling Filler to tie it at 5-5. Filler then broke in three balls but still had to play safe. He delivered an absolute beauty and Grabe was not able to make a good hit, so Filler ran out with ball in hand for a 6-5 lead. One Filler break and run later, Josh was the 7-5 winner of the match. Josh was definitely tested to the max by his in-form opponent who didn't falter until the very late stages of the match.
I still don't feel that this is Filler firing on all cylinders, and get the sense he's vulnerable. Of course, as we know, he can inflict some harm with his "B" game and perhaps he'll continue to do so.
I know this isn't an easy question, but does anyone know if a player has ever won the World Cup of Pool and the World Pool Masters in the same year? Filler (who also played on a winning Mosconi Cup team in December) is two matches away from pulling it off. His task won't be easy, but then again he is Josh Filler.
