Pool players have a special ability to see through the bullshit and bustnum is full of it.

The resistance she encounters is coz she has barely any idea what she is talking about, be it the game, the players, the culture...

He'd likely be as accurate in his proposals if he were on a car forum berating people for using gas when they could just use air for power: clueless.

@justnum I'd like to offer some constructive criticism. I promise that I'm not trying to crap on your efforts. You should download GIMP and start doing some tutorials on YouTube. I get it, you're passionate about billiards and want to spread the passion to others. The thing is, and you know this because you follow other social media, you have to have a somewhat polished product. You're getting a lot of flack because it isn't polished and almost looks like trolling. Again, I'm not crapping on your efforts, but the graphics you have presented are not semi-professional looking. The pockets are not shaped correctly and the black of the pockets isn't even filled in. It looks like it was a quickly scribbled sketch of a concept you wanted to present, then you published the sketch/storyboard rather than the finished product. You've talked about learning different image editing and such, so I get that it takes a while to get proficient at that stuff. I just wanted to present you with my honest 2 cents worth. Your idea is fine, it's just you have to polish the stuff you release more. Quality over quantity.

I don't know if you have a PC or laptop, but GIMP is free and will run on even OLD computers, probably on a laptop from goodwill if you don't already have a computer. It's a bit confusing at first, but it's every bit as powerful as Photoshop without the price tag. If you're doing this on a phone or a tablet, I'd look into better image editing apps. There's a huge difference between apps and it's worth trying several out.

Thanks I am getting training in art. Currently I am doing two value studies of established pool photos or film.

I am currently training my eye to recognize clear and distinct pool shapes.
Thanks for the tips and support. Its a long journey and I doubt I will get to pro level any time soon.

What I know is the pool world is shrinking.
And staying competitive in a world with more ways to enjoy free time is not easy.

I am not thinking anything. Its out there, you can be part of the solution or a barrier to the solution. This train is moving with or without you.

This is not a joke.

When playing pool some people have a awareness of whats on the table as opposed to what they can do.

I am thinking someone new goes to a pool hall and instead of someone saying join or lets shoot, a player can be given a written test or brochure.

The potential pool player can read it and then become informed of the great sport while being given a spatial awareness test.

Ive been hearing about social media challenges. How about billiard IQ test, pros and amateurs alike can use it to build community?

Sports teams do this, I dont know if there is a standard for pool though.

the main concept is let new people read about pool and get educated on it.

i tried some brain teasers only pool players would know and it feels fun

then the standard ones about physics

The aptitude test is more like a portfolio review.
The test part is the question and response. However it is not graded like a standardized test, its more like an end of year work evaluation.

Present your answer in private message and then I will discuss ideas specific to your response.

These questions are specific to shot selection and hand bridge mechanics.

The infographics aren't ready, but try the video in post 66 its gives some practice tips and thoughts on racking and opponents.

Bridging is largely irrelevant in the designing a positive outcome from the two shots you put forth.

Did it ever occur to you they did not like the atmosphere in the room/bar they chose to play and were left with an image that was below their standards? Said image resulted in a broad perception of pool which they determined wasn't for them. Why do you think Brunswick launched the Gold Crown blueprint of bright, open, clean, colorful rooms in the '60's? I'll answer: To project a better image of pool for the mainstream. It worked! Pool shot up in popularity for a decade or so but as the rooms aged and the neighborhoods they were in started to erode, pool started the downward spiral again until the 80's and 90's where we saw yet another renaissance of the game with the advent of "upscale" pool halls centered around nightlife. This is where I got hooked as did many of the people I play with today. It's got nothing to do with level of play or people wanting "homework" to improve. The image of pool in the US right now sucks. You want more people interested in the game? It won't happen until the image changes...again.

Statements like "given homework" and "enforcing new habits" will push more people away and not draw them in.

People do like structure though. We used to offer free lessons and invite them to the pool club and explain league play. Most rooms could do a lot more to attract new customers and retain old ones.
