I’ve got a trip scheduled to Charlotte in September. Where’s the action spot? Also, wasn’t there some nice big room in Statesville or somewhat close to Charlotte? Thanks
 
Your best bet for action in Charlotte is The Smokin' Cue up near UNCC. All 9' tables with 6-7 Diamonds and several Gold Crowns.

Rack'Em in Matthews also has plenty of 9' tables, but they are a mixture of Gold Crowns and Black Crowns with buckets.

The place in Statesville closed 3-4 years ago. It was called Chandley's Chalk and Cue.

Chandleys was one odd place. From the get go it was doomed. Who puts a pool hall that size in a town of 9000 people? When it was briefly opened it even looked like it was ready to be closed in a weekend. Everything about the place could be loaded into a couple trucks it two days at the most. I was a regular at the 24 hour coffee shop in that spot. My wife and I had breakfast there everytime we drove to Asheville to visit our daughter. Statesville is halfway to Asheville so it was a perfect breakfast place for us. The folks in the coffee shop were mostly locals and they thought the place was odd as well..

Agreed. The place was cavernous and had no ambience whatsoever. I believe the owner's plan was to host major tournaments. But that's not going to keep the lights on. Even Charlotte wouldn't be able to support a room of that size.

I'm a little sad, though. They had a 10' Diamond there and I never got a chance to play on it.

Smoke’n Cue in Charlotte, or West End Billiards in Gastonia are two action spots.

We have a 10 foot Gabriels pool table at Family Billiards in Boone with 4-1/4” corners. We keep the cover on it and are selective in terms of who gets to play on it, so the cloth stays like brand new. If you’re ever in this area - 90 minutes northwest of Charlotte, 90 minutes west of Winston Salem and 90 minutes northeast of Asheville.

west end,hands down…josh,hunter,bj,and about 10 others who play good speed…if its action you want ( and I think you do tom) its the place to be….although they do not “serve” alchohol… can,t be nicer people either.

If you're in Charlotte on a Wednesday or possibly Thursday, I may be willing to make the drive from Wilmington. Let me know, it would be nice to see someone from the good old days. I might be donating nowadays, but couldn't be to a nicer guy.

Sorry Dave but it’s on a Saturday, we are in town for the Saints/Panthers on Sunday.

Talked to Mike Davis about that ten footer at Chandleys. Mike loved it. He played on it a few times. I imagine the tables were rented and not owned. So they probably went back to Diamond and then sent where ever they were needed. That ten footer would be something to own though!!
