Straight Pool on a 7' Table?

Just curious if anyone does this? Your rules, etc.

I was messing around with this last night and the number of balls tied up and/or blocking lanes on a 7' is likely to be insurmountable in short order, for even the highest of skilled shooters.

I switched to racking 10 (9 after the first break) instead of 15, and the experience seemed closer to what it's like playing on a big table, with more open balls, room to maneuver, etc.

Just wondering if anyone has played "14:1" on a 7', and how you do it? It's a challenging game that requires a lot of 'tools" in the toolbox.

I believe this topic has been discussed in more detail on the 14.1 forum page. I’ve had a number of 4-rack runs, but seem to be stuck on that in my efforts to run 100 balls on a seven footer. The break shot has to be played with a whole lot more force to try to spread out the balls as best as possible, and you’ll find yourself playing more combinations than you would ever play in 14.1 on a bigger table. It can be done, but planning and precise positioning is absolutely a must.

At home I almost exclusively play straight pool on my 7' valley. I think it's insanely fun. The only time we play 8 or 9 ball is if we're time constrained. I find that my average balls per run are the same, whether I'm playing on a 7' or a 9'. More congestion on the 7', but the easier shots seems to balance it out. We play with a full 15 balls, just because I like the scorekeeping app I use, but I could see how a 10 ball rack would work well.

While stationed in Korea...played straight pool to 150 for months on a Valley bar box. Came back to the USA, became an APA 7 and am still playing APA for 37 years now. 18 Vegas trips. This game is awesome on a 7 footer. You can safety people to death. Fun!

There's a thread in the 14.1 section.
I also added a vid of Thorsten running 100on a diamond bar table, said it took him a week to get that high on it

As long as you are having fun, then it’s what it’s all about. Thx for your service too!🙏💪

I've resorted to this. I zipped through a reckless 30 and stopped caring. On a 9 footer it's a meticulous 30.
And then I stop caring.
