APA League MVP

League is like adding someone about Thi food. Some love, others do not like.

I like Thi food, dislike League Pool, tried once.🤮
You keep saying you tried once. Okay so maybe that League wasnt run the very well, or at least not run to your expectations . But you can't judge all leagues based on one experience. Just for shitz and giggles, why don't you try an APA Masters division. I think you'll find it much different than what you experienced.

In my area it looks like you get 3 points for a shutout, two points for a win, and 1 point for making it to the hill.
Same here. I'm math-impaired, but to do the math on Loriders case, he has 11 wins x 2 points (minimum), at least 22 points. The guy he's tied with has 4 wins x 3 points (max) = 12.

Math is hard ;)

It all depends on your league and what the League Operator decides to do. In the league I played with we would get a plaque and a spot in the "MVP" tournament which is basically a free singles board. We no longer get a plaque or a patch and just entry into the MVP singles board. Some operators are more generous with trophies, plaques, patches and cash prizes than others. So whatever your LO does just enjoy playing and don't worry about it.

That's how I figured it too. But, as said above, his League operator may do things differently. But on the other hand, I would think you would need to play more than 7 out of 14 weeks to get MVP. It just doesn't sound like it's possible.

Players here have to have played at least half the weeks possible. 6, 7 or 8 matches, depending on the calendar during any given session.

I'm curious how the MVP is calculated for your area. 11-1 FAR outweighs 4-2.
I had to look it up myself dub.

Here is the ifficial explanation on how mvp is awarded.

They used 10 matches as an example. There are 3 points available each match. They shorten it to pa. So in 10 matches you have a total of 30 points available or pa.

If you earned 13 points in 10 matches that would be 13/30 = 0.43 or 43 % of 30 pa

We both are tied at 66.67 % . pa . like i said earlier...i should have kept focus during a few matches and won 3-0 instead of 2-0. My mistake for not treating every shot like the entire match depended on it. I have a tendency to slack up a lil when the match seems like its not very competitive.

I love matches where its real competitive and goes hill - hill. I stay very focused the entire time in those tyoe matches. Maybe its just me but a 4-0 win is boring compared to a nail biting hill - hill match.

Not sure about the number of matches required to be eligible for mvp but here in our area you only need a minimum of 6 matches to be eligible for playoffs and such regardless of the total number of weeks in a session. . Maybe its the same for mvp and then again maybe not.

Well apparently you were in red, not a winner.
I just don’t understand what you were asking. About the CSI tourney in Tucson? I did very well, thanks for asking. Maybe won more than anyone else if you count all the tournaments.

That is stupid as hell. As a 7/9, when I would play 9 ball I was limited on the number of weeks I could play. It’s 4 weeks for the mvp standings eligibility, set by the head office for a reason.

OK, I can follow that. Somewhat :) (math impaired over here)

The point, I believe, is partially to keep people from ducking and not playing, once they've gotten to the top of the leaderboard. Many, many times players at the top will look at the numbers and calculate whether they need to play, or whether they don't need to play, in order to win the award. If we included people who only played 4 matches, the award would always go to a 7/9. Every session.

Except that’s now how things work. There are 3 tiers in 8 ball, 4 tiers in 9 ball. Each tier gets their 4 MVP’s for the session qualified for the MVP tourney. And you don’t understand my point. My team, for 9 ball consisted of a 3/3/4/4/6/7/7/9 SL’s. In order for the other players to get weeks, I’m literally limited to barely getting weeks as is. If an area institutes that I must play almost 50% of the matches for a session, then someone isn’t going to be qualified somewhere. Meaning that rule to ‘prevent’ ducking is actually fucking players like me.

Not trying to rile you up. Just explaining why I think its how it is, here.

We have no Tiers. Everyone is in the same pool.

And yes, we have players that won't play the last week, if they are at the top of the standings, so long as they have enough matches played.

That same strategy is applied to quite a few different professional sports as is and shouldn’t be seen as something bad. Players who can’t accept how it is are the same people wanting participation trophies.

Well, to follow that logic, only requiring 4 matches is penalizing the players who actually do participate, and contribute to their teams success, by winning more frequently.

Doesn't seem like the current definition of "participation trophies" to me. They played more AND continued to win.

I ask as CSI did not post results.

field looked dinky, but they never research why.
I think they had 198 players sign up for the singles 8-ball, divided into two divisions. Not too "dinky" for a tournament that starts on a Thursday morning. Is there a bigger one in the state?

Guess 198 was good number. Event appealed to 198.
