SVB to Kick Off High Run Attempts

Maybe I missed it because of the whole childish off topic drama in this thread, but what is going on today, tomorrow, next week and so on...
Shane has finished his first visit with a high run of 308?
What goes on today?
Ruslan is next starting when? For how many days?
Who is in line after Ruslan?

I still think, that this is an exciting experiment, but promotion wise, this turns more and more into a disaster....
On one hand, it's problematic for guys who have consistently crapped on John Schmidt and the 626 to be running and promoting their own version of a long run contest, especially when they can't help but rehash at length the same old arguments in the very place they are promoting the event. On the other hand, if these guys weren't so riled up by JS then this wouldn't be happening.

I'll take it!

gerryf -- thanks for the nice graphics showing SVB's runs. But I have to ask again about real short runs. As I pointed out earlier, the two runs immediately preceding the 308 were 2 and 4, and those weren't showing up in your stats. You explained why. But do your stats also skip others like that? If so, do you have an idea how many? Did the missing runs all end in the first rack? What was the actual total number of his attempts?

And would you be able to give us an explanation of how this software scan actually works?
I did put those two short runs in that you mentioned ( 2 and 4), but i accidentally added them to the end of Day 3, instead of just before the 308. I'll edit my database.

I think there were a couple of short runs that i happened to be watching when they were being processed so I could add those, but for the software scanned videos that I didn't watch, there may have been another 1 or 2 that were filtered out for one glitch or another. All those glitches where it wasn't clear what was happening were time and date stamped so I can go back and recheck. if there's any value to it.

I only did the software thing because the venue didn't have the stats ready yet, but they should be posting their official stats soon.

As for the software and how it works, I'll see if I can set up a demo video for you to look at..

Your completely 100% wrong and it makes no sense. 1 story doesnt always add to make another story.

Dennis Orcullo. At the last several DCCs he consistently had 200s. The last year he had 260 on a table that had 4 1/4-inch pockets. He was also ready to grind out runs day and night.

So far as I know, every other year at the DCC straight pool challenge all of the tables were 4 1/2. I measured many of them. The last year (2019) the two tables in the main room were 4 1/4 while the two in the room across the way were 4 1/2. Filler had his 285 on the "big" pockets. Here's what 4 1/4 looks like:

Do you see the funnel effect of the miter angles in that pocket? Those pockets have a 141 miter angle in both sides which clearly shows the tapered pocket.

Brunswick stock miter angles on GC3 are 142-143 which has more of a funnel effect than the Diamond pockets.

If this GC3 was stock, it wouldn't have had parallel miter angles on both side of the pocket. When parallel miter angles are used, they cause the object balls to delfect deeper into the throat of the pockets, thereby eliminating ball rattle, and missing pocketing the ball. This table is NOT a stock factory table with 5" corner pockets, its been modified just for this 14.1 competition, why is that?

Huh, the man called my wife a $3 hooker among other vile things. You bet your ass I am a hater.

I guess you haven't followed along.
You are 100% wrong we have been through this. I never mention the words Ms. Barton, Mrs. Barton,Karen,Karen Barton, Johns wife,Lulu,Lulu Barton or anything close. You harrassed me at 3am for whatever reason unprovoked and I did make a smartass comment back to you after you did it to me, anything that was said after that was from you starting it not me. I even wrote an apology for my comments but NEVER used your wifes name. I was smart enough to copy the comments you started the unproved attack on me with and have not responded to a single comment of yours for years. I sincerly apologize to you, your wife and your family if I hurt anybody's feelings. Good luck to you John I hope your are Happy and do well with your business and life.

Nothing I have ever said to you has been unprovoked. In fact I didn't even know your name until you choose to disparage me. I am not going to publish your comment here but the fact is you directed it 100% at my wife. I will publish your comment on my own pages where it will be for the public to read and judge for themselves what you meant.
However, I am willing to accept your half-assed apology on behalf of my wife, who was extremely disgusted at your comment.

Now apologize to John Schmidt's wife for your conduct towards her.

Last thing I am posting before I put you on ignore is what I think is the best point made about you and this "project".

As I have said many times I think that it is in fact a good thing that you are bankrolling these high run attempts whatever your motivation is. I have said everything I want to say about it and you and I hope never to hear your name again although that won't be possible. I think you need to apologize to John Schmidt but that will be between you and him.

In the meantime consider these words by John.

I marked the outline the first five years when I ran it. Bill and Dennis have both assured me that they marked the outline every year they ran it. Bill used a sharpie while I used a light tailor's chalk.
Where would one purchase a light tailor's chalk?

Ruslan starts Nov 8 and may go for a couple of weeks -- TBD.

Then, we''ll see. Pool players and schedules dan't work so well when it comes to reliability. We will announce when we're relatively sure things are going to happen.

The "disaster" part is coming from people sniping, which we anticipated but have no control over. As best we can we're trying to do a good thing.

And I do believe there are plans for a YouTube channel.

BTW, SVB has started.

It would be nice if the stream (or archived videos) were viewable from something other than facebook, youtube would be ideal. Facebook Live, even if streamed public, requires a facebook login on most platforms. Particularly any runs over 100.

That typically happens when annoying people are MCing an event. If Bobby just put up the dollars and told people to come and get them with a nominal attempt fee, they'd see the run soon enough.

No, some people will not be good with whatever we try and do.

You cannot make everyone happy no matter what, so we're pressing ahead thisaway. Don't like -- don't tune in, don't go to the chat, don't read the threads, don't watch the FREE stream.

We don't care.

I've followed along for over 20 years and very little of what you say happened the way you say it did.

I commentated on over dozen of these matches over several years. I looked on youtube for those matches, which were played on tables upstairs used for the regular tournament. I haven’t seen a triangle outline on those. I’ll assume I just couldn’t see the outline from the booth.

You keep saying there is no good reason to change this rule, so I’m surprised at the total dismissive attitude.

1. Balls that are non-interfering with the balls yet interfering with the rack can be playable if we use a ballmarker

2. Ballmarkers like today’s markers didn’t exist before in US Pool. Now there seem to be a dozen different great options.

3. Today’s Perma-Rack already has shown what could happen if we use a ballmarker, meaning at least Shane’s shot shows him using a break ball that would have been interfering with most if not all of today’s racks. This is the same shot as he had to get an out-of-play ball to see if the break ball interfered. Not with a rack but with a racked ball.

4. Ballmarkers are already incorporated in other games for various reasons

5. There isn’t only one monstrosity rack. They’ve now become the norm. The rack itself has evolved. Something like a ballmarker takes the rack and it’s growing size out of the equation. Predator rack is a great example.

6. If traditionalists must have an outline, outline just the balls and no gap behind behind the rack. If a 15th ball ends up interfering with the actual rack in the back, use a ballmarker

7. If traditionalists must have an outline of an actual rack, what outline? See #5. A suggestion is to have a standard rack closer to yesteryear. What happens if the venue or event only has racks bigger than the prescribed outline? A ball marker solves that issue.

That’s plenty of good reason. And when this was brought up in the straight pool forum, plenty of people like the idea, while (like one person) were pretty traditionalist about it.
I don’t disagree

But when did pool get so complex?

Did you ever get pics of the “Fatboy Rails”???

I loaned them to Tar Studio and I don’t remember what happened to the rails, I think Bill Stock put them in the Wearhouse and I put regular rails back on the table before I sold it. Diamond for the record made it right with me-nothing was missing or bad biz. I just don’t remember what happened with those rails and I know I sold that table.

Thx

Where would one purchase a light tailor's chalk?
This is like what I use. It's like a mechanical pencil with relatively fine lead. This comes with ten refills for $13. You can get fabric pencils at a JoAnn store or through Amazon. "Dritz" is another brand. Other fabric pencils are made like a normal wooden pencil. You can also use plain pencil or a sharpie. The chalk will wear off in about two weeks if you change your mind. Or the room doesn't want it to be permanent.
