Public figures and professional pool

Really? You don't think celebrity endorsements sell products?

You don't think having TMZ follow Kim Kardashian's ugly ass into a pool tourney would increase viewership?
Was I somehow unclear? It would make a mockery of the game. The OP was about celebrities participating, not promoting.

The is no house between Faulk & Lucy. The numbers on the east side of the streets in the “Flats” are even, west is odd. They skip numbers idk why. Also each block goes up 100. The 500 block is the least expensive to the 1000 block the most expensive
There is most definitely a house in between Faulk and Lucille. In that block of N Roxbury on that side of the street the addresses are evens and increase by 2's. Lucille was the corner house at 1000 N Roxbury, then the second house is the former Jack Benny house with the current unknown owner (since 2002) and blurred on google street view at 1002 N Roxbury (and appears to be the nicest property of the three), and Faulk's is the third house at 1004 N Roxbury.

Here is the google street view of the blurred out 1002 N Roxbury. Notice that it has a massive hedge row on both sides of the property, one in between it and Lucille's property, and then one in between it and Faulk's property (they really seem to like their privacy with the huge hedge rows and blurred out street views etc). From the spot at the link you can pan around for a 360 degree view with your mouse or finger, and without having to move from that spot you can pan a bit to the left and see Faulk's house, and can pan to the right and see a bit of Lucille's house, but you can't see the house in between them that is right in front of you because it is blurred out (you can however see it in the satellite view at the last link below so you don't have to trust that there really is a house there behind the blur). You can also go up and down the street by click on the street in the direction you want to go if you want to get more in front of Lucille's or Faulk's house to see them better.

Here is the overhead satellite view so you can see that there is indeed a home there in between Lucille and Faulk (notice the two big hedge rows on either side of it separating it from Lucille and Faulk), and it also shows you the house numbers for the houses as well, 1000 (Lucille), 1002 (unknown), 1004 (Faulk).

It is probably public record but I don't feel like going through the efforts to find out who the owner is, but if you happen to figure out who owns the house in between Lucille and Faulk please share, I'm curious.

Was I somehow unclear? Look at Nascar and Danica Patrick. My grandmother watched Nascar for the first times because of the celebrity manufactured around her. How many events did she win?

No they don’t always increase by 2’s

I’ve been there 100’s of times. I always drive the curve on Roxbury it’s my favorite street in BH. Lucy lived in the corner 1000 next door was Faulk. He did a huge renovation about 15 years ago to his house. Across the street next to Lucy is a double lot Jimmy Stewart lived on a zillion years ago. I believe the house was rebuilt. Paul Newman was one block over as well.

Edit you could be correct about 1002, that does exist. He might have lived there

Just check the links from post #62 and you can see it with your own eyes right in between Lucille and Faulk. You just remembered wrong like we all do from time to time. Used to be Jack Benny's house, but it sold in 2002, don't know who the current owner is but I'm curious. Nice property.

If memory serves right, years ago in New York City, there was a well known billiard room that held a yearly (or more often) pool event that was attended by many invited celebrities and pool pros. The celebrities were not just observers, but participants in the pool exhibitions put on.
I believe that the billiard room was owned by a celebrity comedian or such. Not sure of all details of format.

Was she famous for something else before racing?

The thread was started with the suggestion that celebrities already famous should be participants...compete...in pool tournaments. Danica was only known as a driver. She got more attention for reasons other than here driving but she wasn't some reality TV personality who got stuck into a race car.

Just racing. She was better in open-wheel cars than NASCAR but they wanted/needed her for the publicity. She had a couple really good shots to win Indy.

Good job, I didn’t know that. I’ll take a few pics next time I’m over that way. I’m about 13-14 miles from there now. It’s such a great street.

I’m curious why it’s blurred out on Zillow.

I can find out who the owner is. My friends mom owns a title company and she has access to everything.

A good portion of those houses these days are foreign owned and are 2nd 3rd etc houses for ultra rich people. Not many are primary residences any longer. Also the “industry” people (film, music etc) left Beverly Hills in the late 70’s and stopped buying there.

Hidden Hills which is 20 miles away is where the industry people reside now and Encino.

In the 80’s Malibu was the hot spot. Lots have their weekend house there. It’s picked up in the past 6-7 years. In the late 90’s until 2014 Malibu was kinda flat, now it’s a super strong market.

Hollywood was the spot until Beverly Hills caught on waaaaaaaay back in the day.

Sadly the whole vibe here has lost its luster, it’s just not worth the price anymore. It’s a amazing place to live but other places have improved and LA really hasn’t. I noticed it in 15/16 when I should have sold the Arden house. There are better places to live for the same money, or live the same for less money.

Yep you are right. Having a celebrity in a pool tourney would definitely reduce viewership.

Jeff Bey used to have celeb tourneys at Hollywood billiards. Some private events, some while the pool room was open. Was fund raisers or social events-never about pool.

Like the general public they can’t make 3 balls in a row, it just isn’t a formula for success. Joe Rogan and a handful of well known people can play a bit, but they are so few and far between it doesn’t matter.

Also well known people usually have busy schedules and lots of money. That like bearding cats unless you pay them huge money. We can’t find $20,000 for first place now in a tourney-how are we gonna get Joe Rogan who just got a $100M payday to show up on time? He mite cause he plays, the money isn’t going to attract him. What’s used to attract players to show up? Money

Money won’t attract notable people because there’s no money there in the first place.

Game over

Have a Pro-Am meet-n-greet deal the night before the tournament starts. That's been done before with varying levels of success. I don't think having a celeb in the event is going to do much if anything to help the game. Pool for the forseeable future is going to be seen via streaming and i don't see people logging in to see some celeb miss balls.

I'm going to go out on a limb here and guess that neither you nor logical are professional advertisers or promoters.

It's just an opinion. Nobody is stopping you from doing anything to prove we are wrong. Maybe you can work something out with RealKingCobra's Tournaments .

Garczar offered a very reasonable suggestion (a Pro-Am) that has worked in other sports.

The real question is what’s a celeb these days?

Some YouTube jackoff? A soon to be dead rapper? A plastic ass?

I’d rather hang with the Gypsies, tramps and thieves……at least they are respectable.

Best
Fatboy

Ps: I left off the gamblers, con artists, hustlers I like those guys too

Pro-ams only work if the pros have some name recognition (I.e. celebrity).

Nascar and golf manufactured their own celebrities. Tiger became a legitimate champ, Danica sucked fumes, but they both opened their sports to a different audience.

Pool will absolutely need that if it is too grow in popularity. Borrowing an established celeb is one way of making others.

Looks like Zillow is just using the google street view pictures which of course are blurred. Lots of sites do that these days and it is an automated computer program that pulls the Google street view picture and automatically places it where it needs to go on their site. Another example for real estate companies is they will have an automated computer program that will take the google street view photo of your house and print it on a mailer they send to you, usually to let you know they have interest in buying your home if you want to sell. Anyway there is lots of ways the pictures taken from google street view is used these days but it is almost all automated when it is companies that are using it for something.

It just occurred to me that the house may not be blurred on the Bing maps street view and sure enough it isn't. Here is the Bing map street view of 1002 N Roxbury without any blur, and on the left of it Faulk's house is in view, and on the right of it Lucille's old house is also in view. You can use the plus and minus signs on the right side of the screen to zoom in or out, and click on the left and right arrows in the middle of the screen to move up and down the street to see other houses better.
Also the “industry” people (film, music etc) left Beverly Hills in the late 70’s and stopped buying there.
It is funny you mentioned that because I was just thinking about that a bit earlier, wondering how many Beverly Hills homes were still owned by industry people, and I am still including homes as "industry owned" if they are still owned by their heirs after they have passed on. My guess would be about 50% are still owned by industry people or their heirs today, but it is just a guess and you would know far better than I. What would your guess be for the percentage still owned today by industry people or their heirs?
