Those gliders and the wind up rubber band airplanes that really flew, or whacked the hell out of your fingers or anyone you could get the prop close to. Made a hell of a mess in a little girl's hair too! Cost a quarter for the big rubber band plane, maybe fifteen cents for the smaller one? My favorite thing though was the little plastic jet fighters that cost a dime. They had a very pointy plastic nose from the factory, maybe a straight pin added to give them a little extra bite! They had a hook underneath the front of the jet and a rubber band on a little plastic stick came with them. Pull back on the rubbber band and those puppies hit mach three! Despite all the warnings, they never hit anybody's eye. They usually ended up on the roof and the balsa gliders and planes mostly got caught in trees with the kites, the roof now and then.
Memories of a mispent youth! If I had it all to do again, I would.

Maybe not. I'm relatively sure that many building codes require that exit door handles work both ways.
