Best value cue stick recommended for $100

2 yrs ago I got this $60 “Action” brand ebony into straight maple SP off Amazon as a starter cue for my daughter. Its perfectly straight and hits amazing, nice mild pro taper and a great layered tip. Honestly, it plays as good as any of my high end cues and looks sharp also. Hard to believe a cheap Chinese production cue could be that good, and I have no idea if their quality is consistent or if I just got lucky - but just FYI.

Asking around for my buddy’s kid. He’s thirteen years old and just getting into billiards. What’s a good stick for about $100? Thank you for your anticipated recommendations.
I recommend the K91C. Within the price range, looks sharp, solid hit, good lock up at the joint. I got the smaller version for my daughter 42 inch. This one is 52 inches should be good for their age. Select billiards appears to have it in stock. You can also select a 12mm shaft vs 13.

The one I always see recommended is a Players. I bought a Collapsar pool cue off Amazon. It hit surprisingly nice for me. Amazon no longer sales them. there is one on Ebay right now.

Why not support a family run business that has been making cues in the USA for decades.

Schmelke. I put my nicer cues away for tournaments and show up with my Schmelke and don't miss a beat. Cost me $90 and nobody is gonna steal it ;)

I'm not trying to disrespect your advice, but as a grandfather that has/had four boys that like to play pool at my house, at age 13 the 52" cue that I have at home was already to short for them.

If it were me, I'd just go ahead and get a 58" cue and let them adapt to it. If it's a bit long for them now, it won't be soon enough.

I like the cues in the McDermott beginners kit, which includes a cue, a soft case, chalk and maybe a tip-tapper. List was $70, but the last I looked they were sold out. I've played with two of them and they hit the ball better deflection-wise than a lot of more expensive cues. Whether they are solid long-term I can't say, but they seemed solid enough. They come with a warranty.

Here's the page:

Kit 5, now $80. Unfortunately, all the kits are still out of stock. I found the cues only at a local supply store.
I really like the design of the overlays on Kit 4.

Too bad these cannot be found. Looks like a helluva deal for $80.

I agree. At that age, he's right at the "tweener" level for baseball gloves as well. Buy him the HS size one now, and let him get use to is, he will grow into in a year or two.

Fair point, definitely options up a lot much options price wise. I guess I was thinking of myself I was really short until I was 16 and then grew like a weed after that.

I know many league players that only play with Schmelke. Most league players are not into expensive cues, they just want one that is straight with a good tip ;)
That's all a PRO wants. All the fancy woods and ivories are a matter of preference and cosmetics etc 🤦🏿‍♂️

i picked up a few excellent, i mean scary good sneaky petes from free apa tournament wins. i use one as a daily player. free and the darn thing plays lights out. after i put a nice hard lepro on it of course :)

its like they give away the most amazingly made cues. and its actually real pretty woods. the maple even has some curly figure in it.

joint disappears rolls dead zero nothin.

True sneaky petes can give the purest hit of any cue.
There are no rings or collars to dampen the hit, they are true wood to wood joints.
