The Legendary Pearl to Take On 14.1 Attempts

Seeing what I saw today, I can easily see a younger, more focused Earl running 480, whatever his style.
Is it optimal? No. If he did shoot with optimal strategy I think he could run 7-800.

The red-fonted comment immediately caused me to think that the same estimate applies to Ralf Souquet particularly because he is, in fact, so logical and imbued with deep knowledge of optimal 14.1 strategy (and his utra-straight stroke perfectly executes the hardest of shots if one comes up).

Hope Ralf does someday enter one of Bobby's future incarnations of this very commendable event. Prime Ralf (as when he won the beautiful year 2000 NYC Blatt-staged event) was an absolute joy to behold.

You think Earl lied about these feats? Are there any witnesses?

Maybe he did- I have no way of knowing for sure. However, for as straight as he shoots, is it really that doubtful he could have run so many balls at nearly half the age he is now?
I disagree. He has no need to embellish anything. He won 5 U S Open 9 ball championships and several world 9 ball titles. If you doubt his ability to play 14.1 check out the 1995 Maine 14.1 loaded with world champion straight pool players Steve Mizerak, Jim Rempe, Larry Liscotti, Dallas West, Ray Martin, Cicero Murphy, Grady Mathews. First straight pool tournament he entered.

If he says he ran 400 I have no doubt he ran 400. He didn't focus on straight pool because that's not where the money was. He just ran 217 at age 60.

ralf was completely in the zone that tournament. reyes had no chance, noone had. it's beautiful when that happens to a straight pool player. have you seen mr chinakhov's matches from the 2019 american 14.1 championship? i think they're on youtube. it looked like the guy was playing while sleep walking. zen mode

???
I can't believe I'm asking this question but here it is.
I've read most all of these 665 replies and damned if can
remember where Earls high-run event is happening.
Name of venue and city please somebody? (I'm giving up gummies for a few hours).

Also, I'm not sure if anyone has brought this us before but it's hard for most players to bare down without an opponent and/or a bet to win or lose. I know a lot a good players I could compete against...until the bet goes up and they switch gears on me.

Well I jinxed him. The first rack looked like a straight pool master. Second was 9 ball again. Missed a slow roll almost straight in shot at beginning of rack 3. He said it skidded.

Why does he keep playing almost straight in shots at slow speed with follow? I'm a banger and I know that is the #1 skid shot.

There is apparently a substantial financial reward if he gets over 526 and even more for 626

It's still not the same as beating an opponent or the risk of losing money that you can't afford. Those things really get the juices flowing.

Actually the run total was exactly 500 and he quit. It was on his personal table with several witnesses. I'm very good friends with the Family and Wimpy never gave a shit about records or trophies only cash.
I’ve heard that many times, just the cash. No brownie points-didn’t care, never mattered. Respect💪

Just curious who is putting up that financial reward and how much $ ?

It's been a while since I discussed it with Bobby but the last document I saw had a payout schedule for different milestone runs.

So yes, there are significant monies to be won, particularly for a 627. There would be sponsorship money involved but as I recall Bobby is putting up most of the prize money. He prefers not to publish specific numbers.

This has been a great sweat, I too hope it keeps going. Will be even more interesting watching other players approach to 14.1
