The Legendary Pearl to Take On 14.1 Attempts

Earl quote of the day: “Pool players are funny people, you know? They stretch their imaginations. Rempe said he had 18 world titles. You couldn’t get 18 world titles in nothing. You couldn’t get 18 world titles in marbles, you know what I mean?”

No, Earl, I don’t, but I love that you do.

Earls just said he tried for a week and came within 47 balls of Mosconi's record.
What a coincidence. I've made that exact statement -- word for word -- dozens of times over the years.

. . . and then my wife always shakes me and says: "Time to get up Arny."

I guess we all eventually start to believe some of our most comforting fantasies. Or else -- as the renowned poet asked -- "What's a Heaven for?"

Just found a Facebook link but it does not look live. Earl is playing but I can fast forward so it can't be live. I watched for a while and he makes troubles for himself. I don't see how that can't catch up with him.

It's live right now. You can go back and forward on the live video. It should have a red "LIVE" button by the time line at the bottom of the picture.

of course earl can run 400.

its simple math. if it takes him say 50 tries normally to run 200. it will take about 50 tries to make 400 on those times he already made 200.
50 times 50 =2,500 tries. based on no other variables that can come into play.

adjust the times it takes him to run 200 and you can get a decent idea how many tries to hit 400 balls.

a great ball running player can easily run 600 if he has the time to make enough tries.
Kind of linear, but what better model do we have?

Thanks and happy new year to you and family

and he SCREAMS so much and YELLS!!! all the time and is HATEFUL and COMBATIVE!!
When you know him, and speak with him. He’s not the same guy that’s on here. His keyboard personality and real life personality are not similar. I’m not sure but I’ve met others like this. Maybe 1% of people are very different online and real life? Glens one of them.

I’m not making excuses for the dumb things he’s stated on here. But as a person in real life-he’s not like he is here. Otherwise I’d not make this post.

His work is so good, he can pick and choose who gets it. And they are always happy-far as I know. If they ain’t, they are looking to pick a fight. Glen did countless tables for me in Vegas over the years.

Glen-relax!

heard. understood.

your first hand experience outweighs all
my assumptions, and i just threw them
all away.

And the stamina. The last runs of the day aren't as easy as the first, and the last 300 balls in a run aren't as easy as the first 300.

I’ve also enjoyed watching him, despite the frustration sometimes. I haven’t been playing 14.1 for very long, and I have no one to play with, so all my knowledge has come from watching stellar examples of straight pool on YouTube. As such, I’ve set extremely high standards for myself in terms of finding a perfect break ball, key ball, etc. Watching Earl has made me realize that sometimes, it’s okay to not be perfect, that’s it better to give yourself a chance by playing off three rails to get on a break ball, or to leave yourself a non-traditional break ball, than doggedly strive for “perfection” and fail.
Here is a solid quote to fits what you describe that comes up in many places and situations..it certainly applies to pool too:

"Perfection is the enemy of the good."

Sometimes there is no other way but I have seen people self-destruct in matches a few times because the position left or shot played wasn't exactly what they wanted. Ironically what they had was still serviceable!! 14.1 is a minefield full of those situations.

I tend to be the "King of all or nothing thinking" so I fall into the traps myself all the time.

yea pat, but i included no other variables to come into play. as some are plus and some minus, one as you added is a minus.
but you can conclude after running say 200 or 300, a player now is more focused as he sees light at the end of the tunnel.
also since he ran 200 or more it also means that he is also on for that day so his best of play might be coming out.

that is why you cant factor in variables unless you know all of them and what each affects it may have.

its just a guess anyway of the chances or time frame for doing it.
