Update:
D
💎
D was detained for 27 hours at LAX airport and was sent home. When Dennis suffered being deported and handed a 5 year ban, I had a feeling that he was already in the system to be questioned on his next flight back to the US. I warned DD that he is probably in their system too and awaiting for his flight back to the US. I tried to warn him that he might suffer the same faith at the port of entry. After a few conversations, he decided to take his chance. He explained to me that if I think he is in the system already and flagged, taking a break and still coming in a few months later won’t make any difference and there is nothing for him in the Philippines to support his family. I completely understand his decision. The day of his entry to the US (Feb. 1), before he approached the Customs, he called me and we even practice what he would say if they pull him aside for questioning and the paper he got why he is traveling to the US (which worked for him several times before). I wished him good luck and not to get nervous. 3 hours after and we haven’t heard from him. Now we starting to worry and hours pass by. The moment of truth, his wife Jackie called me around after 9 hrs that we haven’t heard from DD, he was given one phone call and for two minutes only then they will take his phone again and will never see it until he lands back in the Philippines. Jackie called me and gave me the devastating news. He suffered the same faith Dennis did. Homeland Security made their visas not valid anymore and gave them a 5 year travel ban to the US. D
💎
D fought a good fight, he was detained for 27 total hours before he was sent back. They were doing the tactics of starving you unless you agree to what they accusing you of doing and sign the paper. Hour after hour of just water and crackers. DD mentioned they were already waiting for him and he got pull aside right away and put in a big room full of visitors from all over the world. That time mostly Europeans mostly athletes and artists. They were all being questioned about the same thing, why do you folks frequent the US soil with a tourist visa. How many times you guys will visit the Washington monument or Statue of Liberty. DD was ready for all these questionings but they kept taking him in to another level of questionings and they have made up their mind that none of them won’t be leaving the room without admitting to what they were being accused of and signing the citation paper. DD even jokingly mentioned while this ordeal was happening, he friended a mix martial artist from Brazil fighting here in the UFC. At this time, they were handing out instant noodle, DD ate one and his newly found friend ate 8
😂
. DD fought up a good fight but he said they just won’t give up until they find something and they did which is why I want to tell this to everybody who shoots pool here in the US and frequenting here using tourist visa. Both DD and Dennis never violated any over staying. They were given 6 month visa every time they enter in the US and not once they went over. Now since they frequent the US, they were asked what are they doing here. When both were known for being cue artists, they were asked if on there taxable winnings if they were paying their taxes here in the US. With Dennis, he was paying his taxes with the help of two person filing it for him every year. With DD, we pay his obligation taxes every year through Roy’s Basement since his first visit here. At this time, Homeland Security pulled for the last thing they got in the hat. They were both issued a citation, tourist visa taken away, and a 5 year ban for using a wrong visa, while being in the US. They even said it’s ok to shoot pool in the US as your occupation as long as you use the right visa type (athlete’s or working). At the end, before DD signed the citation, the Consul interviewer assigned to him came out with several pages of DD holding a cue and winning tournaments in the US that he got just from Googling and Facebook searching his name. It all comes down to if they find a picture of you holding a cue in the US soil and you are a visitor here using a tourist visa, good luck to you and hopefully you won’t suffer the same faith as Dennis and DD did.
It’s just sinking in to me now that there is a strong possibility that we might not see these two shoot pool in the US soil again. Hopefully I am wrong
🙏
Dennis has a good chance of being able to come back here and the process begins for him now.
The Bottom Line:
The Homeland Security is cracking down on all frequent visitors of the USA using tourist visas. All port of entries are doing this. They will Google and Facebook search your name to find out what you been doing here in the US. Like I said, DD said he was in a big room with visitors from all over the world (mostly Europeans). All were deported and banned for the same reason doing whatever sports they into or artistry. I felt like I have to inform everybody and not just the cue artists.

Don’t mean to sound callous because it definitely is a crap situation, but it comes off as a sob story. I’d take it down and edit it.

Things like, “hour after hour with nothing but water and crackers,” pulls no heartstrings. Then he ate noodles?

It’s “fate” not “faith”

Don’t consult a lawyer just take advice from your friend. You have to come to the U.S. There’s nothing for you at home. Don’t worry I’ll coach you on what to say.

If you pay taxes then why wouldn’t you bring a copy of your most recent filing? Especially in light of what happened to Orcullo.

The visa sticks out like a sore thumb. Oh, he’s an artist? Well then, a tourist visa should be just fine. He should have applied for a work visa before making the trip... and waited for approval. Especially in light of what happened to Orcullo.

What happened to Orcullo was totally unexpected, but once the hammer comes down you have to think. This just sounds like a foolish course of action, not a concerted effort to throttle the livelihood of artists and athletes entering the U.S.

What is the upside of you writing all this.? Are you trying to warn people be
sure to get their stories straight?

My father used to always say that people who end up in jail, it's not usually because they didn't know the law, it's because they thought they did.

If you read at the bottom of the post, you will see it is from Roy's Basement, not me.
It is a cut and paste from there.

I got pulled into that space at the airport Denis was in on a return trip once from Europe. It was almost jail, they did in fact have jail cells there as well and a big holding room which I was in. I had nothing to worry about and idk why I was out in there. It was all foreigners and they all seemed confused.

After 2 hours I was released and they searched my baggage and I left with no problem as I was doing nothing wrong.

However I could see from the perspective of a non American it was a scary place with officers that don’t give a rats ass about how you feel, they were not playing around. Seemed odd I was flagged and put in there. Was before I got Global Entry (so maybe 2015). It’s a scary place, and very jail feeling. You are not free, you are in custody and your bags are outside the room while your in there-with nobody to talk to period.

Point is done mess with the boarder or customs. They don’t play. Japan is probably the strictest place I’ve been to.

How can he be a pro when he isn't paid to play? And before you start with "sponsors" paying him, there are plenty of people that are "amateurs" that have sponsors. There is no guarantee of $$$ for participating in an event.

There is no pro tour.

He participates in tournaments that "amateurs" play in.

Pool isn't even an Olympic sport.

I say he's simply a tourist that happens to play pool very well.

This might work if he's playing tournaments that pay $100 or maybe even $500 to win. Once you start winning thousands of dollars in tournament after tournament it's your occupation.

Nah, if they were in his backyard maybe, but you add in entry fees, travel, hotel, food, rental car, etc, etc. I bet as far as tournaments go after all is said and done he'd be better off at McDonalds, especially when you add up the hours he puts in to play that well - lucky if it would be minimum wage

A road player once sat me down and told me, 'some people work for a living and some people play for a living'.

I tossed in a bit of my own thinking about what each likely pays and I took the short cut.

And I don't think past $, McDonald's/ pool are really substitutes, especially for those that can actually pull pool off.

Funny that Japan is so strict, understand from neighbor who live in Singapore, the do not tolerate people trying to get drugs in their little country.

Apprently if you caught with drugs, good chance you will be hung to death.

Buddy Paul’s ship visited when in USN, before going ashore they were told about their strict enforcement of their laws.

Remember when American Teen was busted for being Graffiti Artist in Suggaporr. The Caned him, to point he did not sit down for days until wounds healed.

With all due respect, in Dennis' case you would be wrong. Plus, if you add in the money won in challenge matches the final number would be staggering (I know the numbers). It might even rival your job!

In Japan the pro players need a "pro license" which costs $1000 or something and you need to pass a test. After getting your license you need to pay $150 or something (I don't remember the exact numbers) each month to be able to call yourself a "pro".

I heard that 99% of the "pro" players here can't make a decent living and need a second job.

Also if you're an amateur in Japan and you win one if the big "open" tournaments you don't get any money because you're not a "pro".

What do the pro fees provide to the players and by whom are the fund held?

Thanks.

Who collects the money and monitors payments in?
The JPA I believe but I'm not entirely sure, I researched this some time ago because I wanted to play in the big Open events and then I found out what a shit show pro pool is in Japan.

Anybody can be a pro here if they pay money and pass a simple bowlliards test, even if you never win anything you can call yourself a pro player 🤷‍♂️ but if you don't do it then you're not entitled to the prize money in the tournaments..
I mean my chance to win is tiny anyway but imagine you win a huge tournament and then you can't get any of the prize money because you're not paying their monthly fee...
