Must have changed, they covered expenses for my dad. They paid for the transport of his body from Reno to Wisconsin, covered some of the funeral director costs if I remember right, covered a pine box that was draped with a flag, covered the grave marker and burial site. This was a lot of years ago in the 70's, I was young married one son, and just struggling to get buy myself with no extra money. If I remember right, I paid about $300 extra to cover some of the costs, and I had to borrow to do that at the time. His death had nothing to do with the service. Things may be different now, but in the 70's they covered quite a bit, and I know that for a fact as I was the one that made all the arrangements. Also was buried at a local cemetery in a section for veterans. Your facts may be right in today's times, but weren't that way in the past, and that was why I posted what I did as I was just trying to help based on what I went through.
