Political signs at a pool hall? Would you give them your money? Please no politics please just answer the question

Close...but I've seen it too many times to let you slide.

"I'm shooting pool, Fats. When I miss, you can shoot."

I had a friend who was the house man at the pool room in Vegas that had every line in down cold.

We were driving from Vegas to phx back in 92 and he had it on cassette tape. About 10-15 minutes in he said “watch this” he stopped the tape. Wtf?!? I was thinking. He continued on until the end of the movie-didn’t skip or miss a line. I’ll never forget that.

And he could do CoM as well. Word for word.

That’s impressive and something I’ve never considered doing. Memorize an entire movie...🤔

It would be cool for long car rides for sure. I used to do a bit where I’d pretend like i was on the phone having conversations - sometimes aggressive, secretive, sexual, insane, caught in a lie etc etc. My friends loved it and the radio would go off and they’d all just sit and listen and laugh in the right places.

Back in the days before cellphones lol. Or smart phones at least. Good ol timey boredom.

Me either. A whole movie. He had both down cold 100%. Was amazing. He took a cassette recorder and his VCR and made the audio tapes. He didn’t care for music. Pool was his life so while driving he had something “pool” to do.

Pretty cool. I had never thought of it.

I don’t have all the lines down either, but when I’m watching the movies I’m pretty close or spot on these days.

Fun times for sure. Fwiw I’ve never seen anyone else do that. I live in la and have known or met lots of actors. They don’t remember their lines much after filming-I asked a few over the years. Because of my friend doing this.

David Lee is his name. Was the house man at Cuetopia in Vegas. Greatest house man ever!

Damn, OP said in the first post that he didn't want this to veer into politics. So half of the responses were along the lines of "Here is my opinion on your question, followed up with my political beliefs."

*sigh*

When I see these threads I often wonder if you start them to generate traffic. But maybe I've spent too much time reading about Facebook.

So I'm curious I don't want any politics talks I just want an answer to this question. But let's say you went to a pool hall and there were signs saying let's go Brandon. That phrase let's go Brandon also means to F Joe Biden. That happened to me tonight. I went to a pool hall and there were several signs That said that. And I'm just curious if you would be giving The Establishment your money if they had signs like that that showed their political beliefs? For me is that was the only issue I really wouldn't care. But with the other issues I've had with this place in how the management runs it. It almost would be.
I 100% support this message and would feel welcome. Regardless of what political leanings you have this administration has been an absolute disaster. It is particularly relevant for small business such as pool halls trying to stay open with all this authoritarian red tape that is not supported by the science. It's been a hard couple years for small businesses and that message on the door reflects that.

I'll flip a homeless vet a $20 bill before I give any federal elected official a penny. Look up K Street, lobbying, advocacy, and Super PAC money... they don't need any money from me.

People at wear $10,000 suits, $18,000 watches, live in mutli million dollar home and carry $14,000 purses now thats a hard pass. They got plenty of money.

But they are only doing all this for the poor people....

🙄🙄🙄🙄🙄

I'll have to think about how I can do this. Maybe a YouTube clip downloaded into my songs list?
I did something similar with the 1992 NFC Championship game. Had it recorded on VHS, copied audio to cassette so that I could listen while driving. Only had the second half on a 90 minute cassette. I can still hear John Madden saying 'this Cowboy offensive line is manhandling, manhandling the 49ers defense'. (Obviously a long time Cowboys fan). But please don't weigh in on Cowboys or NFL - I stopped watching and following all things NFL after Comrade Colin's antics.

Who gives a sh#t? A lot of snowflakes around here. I could care less if the establishment had a painted 20' mural that said eff Trump OR eff Biden. As long as its not on the playing surface, to each his own. I am there to play pool period.

I'm a small business owner. I have very strong political opinions. But I will never allow any political signs in my establishment.
I would not patronize a business that displayed political signs that I disagreed with, IF I had an alternate choice where I could do business with. If not a choice I would begrudgingly give them my business.

I prefer the pool room and restaurants to be a refuge from the world. I post political stuff for discussion on my personal page on FB but never on our business pages. In the pool room that I just bought I do not allow any news channels to be on the TV.

I went to a restaurant a month ago that was trump crazy, trump signs everywhere and printouts of political memes all over it. I did have a burger and decided to never again eat there or recommend it.

Now I do think that a restaurant that had a political THEME which wasn't partisan might go over well. Maybe one that satirizes politics and makes fun of all sides. I saw a store like that in Vegas that was popular.

I think AZHP meant we should definitely consider signs hung at the pool hall the PRIMARY SOURCE FOR GUIDANCE.

In their absence, a meme will suffice.

Not to derail the thread but will you be sharing your experience of owning a pool room here on AZ?

I'm curious...what if the pool hall had signs favoring Bernie? What would Jaime think then? Would he bother to start a thread?

Any and all political signs sure. Like I said at the beginning if it was the only issue with this place I probably wouldn't start a thread. But because there are so many issues I have with this place I decided to start a thread when I saw this. I'm there to play pool I'm not there to be reminded what the pool owner believes in terms of politics. and also I just never seen a small business do this.

The most I have seen any other business even coming close to politics is a sign saying we don't wear masks if you disagree you don't have to shop here. Personally whenever it comes to politics my brain turns off. I don't get it I don't know why people have to argue about other people that they really know nothing about.

Honestly if it wasn't for a relative who told me about a second hand store that had a let's go Brandon flag about a week before I saw this. I literally would have thought let's go Brandon was something to do with a local person named Brandon and he was showing support for someone going through cancer or something like that.

Actually, I have no issue avoiding places that insist on blatantly flaunting political views I disagree with but I just don't go back and certainly don't take it to a pool forum for an opinion workshop.

I also honestly don't see it happen very often.

I wont buy Goodyear tires because they disallowed employees to wear anything Trump related, but allowed BLM paraphernalia. If they disallowed ALL political imagery, I would have had no problem with that.

I wont buy Carhartt because telling employees they had to get vaccinated or lose their job.... even after the courts deemed the executive order unconstitutional.

Its not much, and neither company will give a rats ass, but I voted with my feet. That's all you needed to do. Problem over.

I see this type of stuff everywhere so to me I wouldnt care I'd still play there. I believe as I do and don't really care what anyone else thinks about it. There's an old saying paralysis by analysis. This is what we get when we start digging into everyone else's standpoint/viewpoint and then avoiding doing business based on that. I refuse to be stuck in that mindset. By the way "let's go Brandon" "I am not a crook" "wouldn't be prudent at this juncture"

Don't want any religious answers to this, but if you had to choose between Jesus and Mahomet to be your teammate in APA, who would you pick and why?
Jesus was a wood worker so he could make one heck of a cue I suspect.
