From a press release by Matchroom of the WPC which is about a week away...

Focussing on transparency, Matchroom is committed to delivering a seamless entry system with the structure of invites for the World Pool Championship set out as below
Total Field: 128
  • 50 World Pool-Billiard Association Invites
  • 1-40 ranked players on Nineball World Rankings not otherwise invited by WPA
  • 15 WPA Women Allocations
  • Up to 20 further WPA Allocations
  • Top 16 2021 World Pool Championship
  • Top 16 2021 US Open Pool Championship
  • WPA Ranking below 32
  • Matchroom Invitations
If a player fits into more than one category, the first category they fit into is where the invite will be taken from. With the Matchroom Nineball World Rankings only launching earlier this year, we aim to work to 50 WPA allocations and the remaining 78 from the Nineball World Rankings in future years.

So they aim to work towards 50 WPA allocations for the world, and then 78 additional Promoter invitations. Well done.

Matchroom rankings should not even be a consideration for the World Championships.
Perhaps give them half a dozen wildcards as they are the promoter.

what's the intent of this thread?

are you suggesting flaws in the selection process?
Is there something wrong with having posted this letter from Matchroom. I'm glad he did as I hadn't seen it before and it is nice to see how the allocations are dolled out. How the thread goes from there, well who cares.

Super strong field with big names Filler and Orcollo joining this pool party  Notable absentees are defending US Open Champ, Carlo Biado and Lee Van Corteza.

On Instagram MR posted a list of players, who were invited, but I guess declined the offer.
I can't find the post anymore, but I remembered Biado, Wu Jiaqing and Jasmin being on that list.

also raga, bustie and the mainland chinese seems to be missing
That is expected cos they did not come for World 10 Ball cos of travel issues etc.
Was actually comparing big names of W9B field vs W10B field: + Filler Orcollo - Biado, Lee Van

Yes all big names invited except for Raga
I think Matchroom and most Euro players never heard of Raga. :LOL:An elite player who is not on WPA or Matchroom rankings.

yea, visa issues seems to be a permanent problem for pool players.

i think they know of raga, but raga even before c19 wasn't well travelled. even less so now. that's the problem.

...having had lunch - - out for a troll ah, I mean stroll

without any fargo numbers it's hard to make any game out of this, so,
any Russian slaughtering Ukrainian matchups?

I am wondering how much of the matchroom fan and betting base is busy dying or doing the killing, nothing at all.
Do you think matchroom has them expendable?

Filler vs. Melling is an exiting match up for a first round.

But now we know the players, we know the first round draw, so who is your pick for this year's champion?

Albin always does well in MR events, but I have the feeling he won't be able to defend his title.
Filler would be a good pick...
Shaw, SVB....maybe?
The Asians might have been too long gone from high class tournaments to bounce right back to the top.

I have the slight feeling we will see another Champion from Europe...but not one of the big, big stars...maybe Zilinski, Ruiz?

the absent asians has definitely lost a step or two. i didn't think that would be the case, but it shows how important competition is (vs practice).

my pick is filler.
