We’ll definitely not going back to that place again.

Went to a local place today to shoot in a tournament. First time being there. Never ever again. Waste of $10. For one the tables were horrible. The rails had indentations, one rail was loose. Went to shoot a slow roll ball into corner pocket for position on my next shot, the ball went towards the pocket then away due to a crease in the cloth. Thennnnnnn to top it off, I won the first game of this match, my opponent stops mid game to play some side pot shit that they had going on and made me sit there for 15-20 minutes waiting for him to come back to the safety That I played on him. The guy running the tournament allowed the s**t. There’s a time limit on shots for a reason in most leagues and tournaments.

All you can do is vote with your dollars.

For little local events like this, just focus on having fun instead of serious pool
If I’m paying more then just quarters for the game and playing for money, there’s a limit to how much is just for fun. Especially when everything was sh*t like that. There is no such thing as fun when all three tables played like garbage. There was someone there that definitely gave me a good laugh. Everytime the guy would shoot and use any kind of side English, He’d launch his cue up to the side like his whole body was going to push the cue ball to spin more. He actually made a few of those shots too.

"Body English" is a staple of the bar shooter

welcome to the real pool world. I might be one of the all time best players in the world on trashed equipment. I was playing a guy and the whole rail rubber dropped down and was just hanging in the cloth and I told the owner and he said I don't fix the equipment till winter... I paid my opponent , paid the time and said , I hope this ain't the only place open next winter , and left. I had known the guy about 20 years.

Yeah after that whole 20 minutes bs, I finished that match and left. That was only my second match. I wasn’t about to sit around and figure out how the rest was going to go. I’ll stick to my other two weekly spots. They actually have good equipment and also they run damn good tourneys. Honestly some of the best smoothest tournaments I’ve ever played have been st those spots. No drama, no bs, they polish all the balls prior to the tournaments, time limits on shots so the tournaments are not lasting until 2am. Everyone has fun, but they also get down to business bc there’s money of the line. I just went out on a limb and decided to go try this one out.

were all the other players complaining as well.
Three of us. My buddy that came with me felt the same and another guy that’s never been there said he wasn’t coming back. All the others were regulars there and friends with them. The guy running the tournament and his buddy were shooting pretty damn good on those sh*tty tables. They knew how to play those sh*tty tables.

I know adjusting for conditions is part of being an accomplished pool player but there is a point when you are either not playing the same game anymore or all the delicate nuances you practiced for years are basically worthless. I probably get too wound up over it but it's frustrating when I want to achieve something and nobody around seems to care enough. I think that's one of the things holding our sport back is that too many people think of pool as just something to keep drunks from getting bored instead of a pursuit worthy of serious dedication. Fortunately most of the tables I see are adequate. Now if they would just replace the cue ball every few decades....

I play one like that. I go mostly just for the good people that are probably only there for the same reason. There's money to be made if your patient enough to deal with the bs tables. 4 tables and everyone has atleast a dead or loose rail, one of the tables both long rails actually angle out towards center table at side pocket, no chance of running a ball down the rail and the clothe is actually felt I think LoL but the people are awesome and diamonds coming I hear 👍

I played league one year. One pool hall (ours) and who knows how many sub-redneck bars -- creme de le trash. Never again. I would play in another league with pool halls but it can't happen here.

I went to a spot a couple times for a tourney, it wasn’t quite as bad as this one sounds but the tables were all of a different make and model, the cloth was old as hell, bad ball sets and cheap, off-angle wooden racks.

It felt like a purposeful assault on my senses. You could not get a tight rack on these tables. Or at least I couldn’t.

The tourney is rack your own, loser breaks. If I didn’t win my first rack I was basically done for sure if I was playing someone decent.

I’d break them up, he’d run out, I’m forced to break again, he’d run out 😂.

8 ball first, 9 ball on loser side. I never won a single 8 ball match the 3 times I played there, I just could not make a f’ing ball no matter what I did. 9 ball you sometimes get a random ball to drop or the other guy at least wouldn’t have a shot on the 1 so I’d actually get to play a bit. I got 3rd once coming up through the losers side.

Good times. I love pool on top equipment - you can’t beat it.

I used to play a lot of tourneys similar to that.

I can say from experience that the people there won't miss you. They also aren't going to remember you. They also had a lot of fun at the same tourney you got mad at.

Sounds like they win more than you by you not returning.

Well when you are paying to play in the tournament the fun factor has a limit. When a game gets halted in the middle of a match. That’s some bs. No one paying should have to wait 20 minutes for their opponent to shoot. Now if the tournament was free 2 play or if the winning where going to a charity for something like that. All for it. Take as long as you want and make the most out of it. But this was advertised like a regular money tourney. Didn’t play that way. And the equipment sucked.

Sounds like you were crashing a small local tournament with nonplayers, (you obviously have not been there before). Thinking you were going to show them how the game is played. You found out the reality of bar pool.

You better know how to play on anything. I used to play a lot of bar pool. I didn't care at all how bad the equipment was. The equipment is just as bad for them as for me. Good experienced players don't complain about what they have no control over, they adapt.

I never once said that I played bad. I won both of my matches. I walked away after that second match. The table were trash and the waiting 20 minutes sh*t was the last straw. I’ve spent 75% of my life in a bar, I know how “bar pool” is played. I’ve shot at a bar with 1 table and 15 guys. the tournament played better then this one. I’ve tournaments myself. Several down by fort hood Texas, I’d bring in 20-25 people to play weekly. If the bar wants to run a tournament at least abide by the rules that you’re playing under and also fix your damn tables.

Very simple: Don't go back. Couldn't count the # of times i've seen this scenario. Also a great score once. Local hot-shot wanted to show off for his lady. Well, my buddy taxed him for about 3grand in 1982ish dollars. Sweeeet. Tables sucked but when you've got a stone-cold sucker hooked who cares. ;)

You crashed a small $10. Local tournament with nonplayers who don't care. You plobably didn't belong there in the first place.
