Carbon Fiber Shafts should be Banned

If he were alive and competing today, there's a very good chance he'd use a CF shaft because his sponsor would pay him to. Even if he didn't truly believe it was the best possible performing material.

I'd bet the majority of the CF haters here would play with one for the right amount of dollars. And tell you how great it was...
If he were alive today, Mosconi would probably program a supercomputer attached to a robot that holds a depleted uranium cue in order to pocket forty million balls in a row, and every shot would sound like: "TINK TINK"...

But if you ask me, THAT AIN'T POOL.

(Please note that I am channeling the spirit of Minnesota Fats, which is a long story that has to do with a vintage Ouija board and a winsome seductress who emptied my 401k to buy Beanie Babies - don't judge).

Petiole buy the latest greatest product because of slick advertising, hype, or celebrity endorsement.

Remember as kid standing in 5 n 10 stores, watch pitchmen sell their latest greatest product.

One item that worked well was knife made of glass, cut any thing well.

Could go most kitchen chores with it, secret was very sharp, and almost impossible to full.

Good quality steel knife did same thing.

But people bought those magic glass knives because if hype, demo pitchmen did.
Totally true. People also bought a lot of asbestos products once upon a time, and some mothers gave their kids liquid codeine because the 1911 Sears catalogue marketed it so well, and boy did "Morton's Fabulous Elixir" help calm Timmy down!

You are attention seeking and bored. this is not the place. You ate LEAD PAINT AS A KID FROM WHAT I CAN TELL< Please go play pool, get out of the house.

IF ya'll think the shafts sound bad just wait till the new carbon fiber balls come out! I can hear it right now..

Combos would be a tink, tink, a link shot!!

Carbon is future of Pool until next fad arrives.
They are here to stay. $$$

Less handling/seasoning than wood (just in time manufacturing instead of sitting on years of stock). Easier to find than good shaft wood (damn near impossible today, IMO why kielwood is a good choice, makes new wood closer to old wood feel/sound).

Cheaper supplies, less stock on hand, sells for more $. They are here to stay but I don't see most manufacturers ever getting completely away from wood because people like it and people who don't like CF wont buy CF.

How much money have you invested in carbon fiber shafts?

Just curious.
I am a Cue and Case dealer and CueTec dealer. I have one in my bag right now. I like them when I am playing a lot. Unfortunately my job restorting pool table and building badass new lights takes up a lot of time. I do not get to shoot as much as I like. I am celebrating 10 years in this business on May 5th.....
My book of work( no login needed, its public)

This is all I am sayin to you and this post is still bullshit.

Laser-sighted, nano-tech-honeycomb, automated cues are a natural progression.

Robots shoot with a 99.999999% accuracy rate, compared to the piddly 99% accuracy rate of the world's greatest players.

R2-D2 can shoot a billiards ball 5,000 ft into a 2 2/3" aperture, thus providing a thrilling and natural progression of pool from a blood-and-flesh sport into a cold steel sport.

Once big enough pieces of slate can be assembled, pool will enter a new era of droid wonderfulness, and the idea of a pool table that is less than 80 football fields long will be sneered upon.

Heck, even C3PO can hit a 200 foot jump shot.
Your hyperbolic projection is ridiculous. Did CF arrows lead to bows that draw and aim themselves? No. Did CF fishing rods ruin fishing by leading to rods that cast themselves and reel in the fish? Nope. Did wide CF use in automobiles lead to self driving electric cars? No, Elon Musk did that.

Try to avoid stepping off the deep end.

The other day I got a chance to shoot with one of these pieces of crap, and all I can say is: UGLY.

I always knew that they looked ugly, but they also sound truly awful. My pool-loving soul recoiled at the very first impact of the cue against the cue ball, and that horrendous hollow "plink" sound.

Carbon fiber shafts and phenolic break tips are the aluminum baseball bats of pool - sure, they perform well, but they look like crap, they sound like crap, and they are a sign of everything wrong with billiards in America.

In England they have respect for tradition, and great snooker players make a lot of $$$ using snooker cues made out of real wood - no gimmicks, no B.S., no eyesores, and no plinking pieces of carbon fiber garbage.

I'd rather shoot with a broomstick than with a carbon fiber shaft.

Carbon fiber shafts should be banned from every money game - agree or disagree?
I don't like the sound of carbon fiber shafts either, and they are not for me as far as how they play. I disagree with banning them, however.

Also, in the snooker world, they have plenty of fads. The newest is titanium ferrules being fitted onto cues who used to have brass, for lower deflection. The snooker world does have respect for tradition, but they are slowly starting to embrace trends that originated in pool.

Jump cues. They are for people who can't kick and won't bother to learn.
I get the thought. I'd rather kick than jump any day. There are times when there is no serious possibility of a kick without selling out. Better to use a carnival game cue than take on something close to impossible. I enjoy tournaments where no jump cue is allowed as it lets the "moves" come into play, but it is another tool you should learn. Is the jump 10% easier and more certain than a kick? Jump. Is the kick 10% easier and more certain than a jump? Kick. It's a simple choice to choose the right tool. Refusing to use the right tool is silly. Why put yourself at a disadvantage when anyone can learn to use a jump cue?

Because they dumb down the game. Most don't even consider a kick. If a ball is in their path, just jump it. Destroys the point of a good safety.

This was a good laugh for the day, I hope you feel better after venting.
I do feel better, and I'm glad you're laughing.

I wish that (some) people wouldn't take things so seriously. My honest personal opinion is that billiards should go back to traditional cues - all-wood, sounds good, looks good, and hits good.

I haven't even mentioned that I hate low-deflection cues, and I'm already getting hate!

If carbon fiber is the aluminum baseball bat of pool, then low-deflection is the corked bat of pool.

Mind you, I spent a ridiculous (for me) amount of money on a low-deflection shaft, but I still want LD shafts banned, even though I call my LD shaft "my baby." (OB Phoenix 11.8mm).

In some ways, hating on carbon fiber shafts is sort of like telling a guy his girlfriend is ugly, so I deserve the hate, but I'm sticking to my guns anyway, because I'm in love with this game too, and I want it to sound and look so good that no one can claim it's anything but sexy af.
