What's dumber? Not knowing how to kick or refusing to learn both and taking the easier path? There are multiple options for most shots. The better players choose the correct choice more often. Why rob yourself 50% of the choices when you don't have to?
I get it, jumping feels cheap but I like to see my opponent jump. It means I took out the easy shots, lets see how hard pool gets when we add in 10X more variables to their shot! You should encourage jumps because it means they are already in trouble, especially if you understand jumps and leave them crap that looks tempting. Leave some meat on the bones in your traps and you'll catch more!

But his point is lost when you consider CF shafts don't warp, ever. A consideration here in the tropics, and the hit is perfect.
Everybody is looking for the magic bullet and at end of the day carbon dont make any difference. Feel of the hit from a maple shaft is the best by far! Carbon has no heart. All shafts deflect, it is the time spent get used to deflection properties more or less. Take your pick. Some more than others.

I have a Pechauer jump cue with a phenolic tip. It's the only cue I own that has a blued shaft, and I'm pretty dang proud of myself for figuring out how to jump right.
No carbon fiber though - carbon fiber sucks. ;P
I'm actually planning on replacing the tip with a Samsara or buffalo tip.
We should have a death match jump shot competition - you with a carbon fiber shaft and phenolic tip, and me with a maple shaft and buffalo tip.
Winner gets to determine what is banned in competitions.

Kielwood wouldn't exist if you could still get good shaft wood. Kielwood makes today's shaft wood preform closer to good old type maple. That and it's lighter so it's a bit more LD. Nice sound too, like an instrument or well aged wood. Loose grained (like today's maple) kielwood plays every bit as good as old straight/tight grained maple.
It has it's place. It is marketed to bangers the same way CF is, but like CF they have their place.

If you honestly think this it's because you don't understand how jump cues work. You can either lay a trap or you cant. GIVE THEM A JUMP, but make sure they're F###ED if they take it. The only thing being dumbed down is from lack of understanding. Set the trap no matter which tool they use.
You know how you can leave someone a dead scratch shot? It's even easier for them to scratch off of a jump. Let them have their tools, but know how to use them against them. What's smarter than that?

People should just use what they like. I know people who use less expensive cues and shoot much better than I'm able to. I also know people with cues worth a used car who I can beat. Get what works for you and practice with it.

Honestly jumping over a ball does take away a useful safety. i like the idea of baring jump cues.
The knife example is what is referred to as anecdotal evidence. The single example does not hold up in the same way when comparisons are made to other things.
Disc brakes, vulcanized rubber, shatterproof glass...technological advancements that kept cars able to stop, roll and see through. All of which happened before those things too.
