Sorry Fatboy.... the orange 5 is not coming back!

The compromise , coming soon.

Won't change the 5 ball.

But add a dash of orange to the 9ball.

Ha ha ha

Matchroom really dropped the ball on this. Gray cloth is fine, no issues there, it looks good on screens.

Purple 5, for a game of 9 ball is wrong. It goes against tradition (not in a good way). It's literally the only gripe I have with their production. I can live with it, but I hate it every time I see it.

Admitting you've made a mistake and just running with it (because you know, purple 5 has such a long history of it being tied to matchroom) is a bad decision. Matchroom should be able to dominate 9 ball for decades. Don't let a one year mistake ruin the next 10-20 years of pool.
Re: Colors and changes, grey cloth great, glad to see the blue cloth go away it had as much appeal as a black light in a strip joint! Four inch pockets, great, the average non pool playing people surfing the tv with their spouse come across a seldom aired pool match only flip right through saying ‘oh those pros never miss“. They need to see player miss from time to time this lets them know how hard the game it, and is less boing then seeing player runs rack after rack. The four inch pockets will go a long way to accomplish this. Last but not least is returning the ball to their traditional colors and that means a maroon 7 ball, and an orange 5 ball!!!

For the most part, I think Matchroom is doing good things for pool, let’s hope it lasts,,,

No they are going to make it black :)
Black with white spots… I dig it! Or half black half white for diversity. The days of pool being dominated by white cue balls are over! We can call it the Diversity Ball, or Ying Yang Ball if in need of additional funding.

You joke, but while looking at unique pool ball sets on amazon about 6 months ago I found a racial equality pool ball set. The cue ball was black and the 8 ball was white. To me it seemed odd as the 8 is the money ball in 8 ball. Also the fact that you hit the cue ball with a stick every shot... that makes it a bit odd of a switch. The item description was a doozy. I can no longer find the set or I'd post it, it was most cringe.

With such high definition in cameras nowadays they should change the color of the balls to their original colors. The only reason they made the switch was because of poor cameras and the “spectator” having issues and not the players.

Restore the original colors of the balls and let’s move forward

They could eventually do this digitally on common operating expense. Even now, all kinds of possibilities. Like number recognition with DSP highlighting ... whatever the engineers wanna do.

In her defense, Emily did admit that the decision was wrong depending on what the players or the pool fans were used to. What I don't get is why they sat down with Aramtih, designed the new balls, started prduction before even once thinking about what the players/viewers/fans would say about the new design. Just do a simple research beforehand.
With this in mind, I also tend to believe that the changes were purely made to generate interest for a new product that basically no one really needed. If it works, it works. Personally, I hate the fact that they went from white to black, I don't really care a lot about the purple 5-ball. Sure, it sometimes irritates me when watching but everyone will eventually get used to it. Wasn't there a similar discussion when Cyclops introduced their balls? Their colors were pretty unconventional too.

I actually found the set and the description...

That's it!

Not sure, but the 6 was lime green instead of dark green and the 7 was a light blue instead of maroon. The issue isn't so much the colors (though pool players will bitch about anything) but the fact that they changed the 5 to a traditional color that was the 4 for a hundred years.

If you changed the 6 to maroon and the 7 to magenta, there would be similar frustrations. Change the 2 ball to red and make the 3 blue... same thing.

Credit to Karl Boyes for those interview questions, he clearly did his research into what people were asking.

As for the 5 ball...I like everything Matchroom are doing...except that. The cloth I was sceptical, but it works, even the black and yellow 9 I can live with, but the 5....one tweak too many!

That said, logically it does make sense for the manufacturers to change the colours every so often, as they should be able to sell more sets, so maybe one day it will come back!
