Layer tip installed wrong way... Any difference?

I just noticed that. Did the guy leave the carbon fiber pad on the maple ferrule? I cant tell in the pic. If not, make him do it again. You cannot use an OB maple ferrule without it. You will NOT like what will eventually happen.

OB stopped making those ferrules about two years ago. You wont be able to get it replaced.
My friend said there was no carbon pad installed (I warned him about it before I gave him the shaft), all leather tip.

I am picking pool back up after 10 years, bought the OB2 over a decade ago! I can't for the life of me remember if I replaced the tip or not 10 years ago! I definitely wouldn't have done the tip myself, so either I somehow got a shaft with no pad installed or I had someone replace the tip and he popped the carbon pad off and I never noticed.

My friend had the insight to put a fiber protective pad in between the ferrule and the tip at least. If it breaks.... I was looking for an excuse to get an SS360/2 or maybe go off the deep end and get a Meucci carbon pro :ROFLMAO:

The ferrule looks odd to me. Looks shorter then when new. It looks like it was damaged sometime in the past and was trimmed short.

The comedian Steven Wright once said about hooking things up backwards:

How do you know if your car battery is hooked up backwards?
- your horn sucks, your lights cast shadows
and your radio listens to you
Buddy was partied out and slept late. I think we should wire up his brights to his horn. A week later he passed up my cousin on the side of the road; tapping out a little ditty in rhythm with the flicker of his lights.

Reminds me of Lucas Lighting. A British company famous for being the father of the intermittent wiper. Of course the also invented intermittent lights, intermittent ignition, etc, etc. A friend had a gorgeous Royal Enfield. A motorcycle magazine had done a seven or nine page full color shoot of the bike. Rudy never rode it, he said it was too "British" to ride. Having owned a Norton with Lucas lighting and electrical I knew exactly what he meant!

Any recommendations?
What joint does your cue have?

If it's 5/16-14, Mezz with a United Joint. Special order on other joints.
For anything else, your choice of Predator shaft.

Or consider carbon shafts. Mezz Ignite, Predator Revo, and Cuetec Cynergy.

OB had two models with the wood ferrule, the OB1 and the OB2, the OB2 had a shorter and narrower ferrule. Those shafts had a great feel if you liked a softer smooth hit with a bit of flex feel and juiced up the cueball really well with spin. 1/2 inch ferrule on the OB2 and 3/4 inch on the OB1.

If you want to play around with a carbon fiber shaft, the OB Carbon is great. As low deflection as the Revo with more hit feel. The Meucci is not as good (to me at least). Nothing wrong with that OB2 shaft though, but you really do want to have the protective pad on it. I played with the OB Carbon at SBE this year and was very impressed with it, almost bought one but they did not have the stock and at the end of it I did not want to spend another $400 on a shaft when I have like 10 already LOL

Cool. Thanks. I have the OB1+. That's why his ferrule looked short to me.

Lucas has been called "the Prince of Darkness" by English motorcycle riders.
