Felt colors

If anyone is worried about the felt colors. You’d better hope Coca Cola doesn’t sponsor any American tournaments. From 2009…

Don’t know about the other tables in there, but look at the shadows on the balls on the front table!

Blue and green cloth are boring. They work well for us that are into the game, but for rec-rooms lets put whatever colors the kids, ladies and office party players think looks cool and add a logo from Chick-Fil-A or Jack in the Box if that keeps people coming.

There's a place in Midland Texas with red cloth and red chalk and they are always packed so bring on the colors, bring on the bangers and kept the cash flowing!

Years ago, I asked someone in a poker game, in Las Vegas, if he knew where to play pool there in town. He said there was a great pool hall in Las Vegas called Pink E's, and I should check it out. I asked what was so great about it, and he said because the pool tables were pink, of course. I thanked him, and said I would try to get over there before I left. I never made it. 🤣

I believe it's gone now, and I think I heard it burnt down several years ago.

That picture is from the GB 9-ball tour in 2009. When Coke was a sponsor.

It was across the street from the Rio, it was a chain. They built the building-was a free standing building with a big parking lot. Cost 2 ton’s of money. Had a big bar in it. Probably 25 barboxes-I don’t recall the color of the cloth. I ignored them.

In the back there was about 10 brand new GC4’s and were set up pretty good for players. Green cloth. They had weekly tourneys for players. It opened about the time I moved to Beverly Hills for telemarketing and I wasn’t in there often, being in LA 75% of the time.

Also Lions Den was open, Cuetopia, Cue Club and a few other rooms. Vegas was saturated with rooms.

Pinkey’s eventually closed. And the building sat vacant for years and years. I was surprised there wasn’t a gym or something that came in behind them. It was demolished years later.

They lost sooooo much $ there. They spent maximum $ to open. Was well done-just didn’t do well. Too many rooms and pool wasn’t that strong in Vegas then and the bar biz is super tough to break into in Vegas. New joints have a tough time .

Best
Fatboy <———-liked that room

There was a place in Boston that was opened for a few years, not only where the tables some odd color (I think red) they also kept the house cues piled up in the bridge holder spot under the table. Had couches on one side of many of the tables too close to stand on that side even with no one sitting in the couch. Needless to say it was a one time visit for me. Poll halls managed by people that don't know anything about pool or have anyone on their staff that knows what's what is just stupid. The funny part is that of the larger chains of places with pool tables, I find that Dave and Busters have better quality equipment than many actual pool halls. Jillians and Boston Billiards in my area are pretty much all gone, and although they were "pool halls" they really did not have anyone there that knew much about how pool players like things.

Yeah, that's because there's no good place to play in Midland, you can go to Odessa, or play at Fast Eddie's... that's pretty much it.

If I was an owner I would agree, even if it's horrible for the "players" but gets more cash in, it's "good". But as a player, I stay away from those places. It also has a drawback of teaching the bangers nothing about the real world of the sport past the "it looks cool" factor and we just end up with more people dumping drinks on the cloth and arguing over made up rules as to how many "walls" the cueball needs to hit if you miss all the other balls for it not to be a foul.

We used to have Pink-Es in Denver with obviously pink table cloth. It looked like a place with pole dancing in the center. I think they are gone. My neighbor bought a table from one of them.

Green and tourney blue for me.

If I play too long on a red felt I tend to get sleepy. Also it seems every red table I play on the felt is slower. Is it a dye thing?

Red tables give me a headache after a couple hours. Tourney blue gives me a headache sometimes, but not near as bad as red.

Black sucks,

Anything else that’s not bright I’m ok with
