Few days in central Chicago, which pool rooms would you recommend? Looking for somewhere with a bit of history if possible (thank you).

#1, Chris's( Color of Money ) . 2. Surge on Fullerton/Logan Square/ Diamond tables. 3. Surge on Montrose/ Brunswick tables

Enjoy!

P.s. Chicago Pizza and Oven Grinder has the "Upsidedown Pizza". Best Italian dish I have had in Chicago. I have tried all the pizza places: Uno's, Lou's, Barraco's, Connies and so on & so forth.
Never thought I'd see Chicago pizza and best "Italian" dish in the same sentence. o_O

Was just there for a Cubs game, but didn’t get to play any pool. I do recommend this place below. Their grinders/pies are fantastic!

And my niece turned us on to these brats for the pre game, roof top party. Holy Cow! These brats are out of this world!

Pizza pot pies is not pizza. Forget about the deep dish. South side thin crust pizza is the best.
Chris’s and Surge on the north side and Red Shoes on the south side.

The Pizza pot pie is better than any pizza in Chicago! Red shoes is not in Chicago. Alsip is a burb town. If you are in the City, driving all the way down there is a long ass drive :)

The orig. Nancy’s stuffed pizza was pretty good (Nancy usually poured me wine while I waited), but the best ‘deep dish‘ I ever had was at a place called ‘Gulliver’s’ on the north side.
I always took the tri-state down to Red Shoes. Longer, but easier.

Was Chris's the Grady Seasons scene?

A long ass drive?

Try it from STL. I've gone up numerous times for a one day 14.1 or 1pocket tournament. Red Shoes is action central and totally worth the drive, which I cannot say about Chris's.

The guy is only in town for a few days. He said "history" not action. I don't gamble, nor do I like it, so none of that is attractive to me. Nor would I send someone away from the city to spend an hour each way in the car when they only have a couple of days in Chicago. Just giving him my best advice on what he asked for. Hope you are well Lou!! :)

Those would be my choices too, for different reasons.

As others have said, Chris’s is Chicago’s historical pool hall, full of history and action, but a bit faded with age. It has only fast/snack food and soft drinks.

The two Surges are Chicago’s beautiful upscale rooms, both owned by a good friend of mine:
- The Albany location has GC5s, a full coffee shop, bar and kitchen
- The Logan Square location has Diamonds, a bar and kitchen

The map below shows where they're located (the red squares) and how far (as the crow flies) they are from the downtown "Loop".

I is good Trent but really it's not such a long drive.

Chris's is not downtown Chi-town -- depending on traffic it's a good ways out of town and perhaps no further time wise than Red Shoes, just in a different direction. History-wise, yes, going up the stairs at Chris's is like an old time place but it loses something, for moi, quickly thereafter. For my money, Red Shoes is a much better pool experience.
