Why 9' ft. Tables ? Guy...

That information came from people in the business for many, many years. I have no reason to think they lied. Nor do you.
I actually have reason to think they misspoke or were just making shit up.
Do you see any NY forum members corroborating any of these zany tales?
Let’s see how many respond specifying a time frame & region this applied.

I played pool in NYC and can tell you it is bullshit. Admittedly I relocated
a few decades ago but it wasn’t true then & I submit it’s never been. The
exception being COVID restrictions & early closure of bars & pool rooms.

Anyone first hearing these stories and believing them likely also bought the
Brooklyn Bridge but they got a darn good price that was just too hard to pass.

When I worked at the BCA office 2000's, I would mix at times with the mfg during their quarterly in office meetings. One of em told me out east Big City, probably New York Wooden cues were outlawed, they had to be fiberglass. Why? Because in a fight, they would snap em in 1/2 and then instant weapons. Pretty sure this did not include pool rooms, was for bars.

golly , i guess your head would explode if you knew they had 10 and 12ft tables out there
There isn't enough energy in my head to actually explode these days. I did not mention larger tables because that wasn't the question.
Also, the 9 really is the better in JUST my opinion. The larger tables require too much extension and bridge shooting. While those are certainly high skills, I just prefer a table where most shots are just me and my cue. I am pleased that my imbecility gave you a chuckle oh knowledgeable sage. :-)

You could do the same thing with a wood chair’s legs and turn them into a club.
You’re more likely to get stabbed before someone breaks a cue to make a weapon.

Now I’m more confident this is likely a fairy tale about banning wood cues in pool rooms.
I musta missed all the news, despite growing up in NYC, about broken pool cue stabbings.

Got news for you. You can do more damage with a broken car antennae in a fight back in the
day. Just walk down the street and snap a car antennae. Then extend it and put it between the
heels of your shoes and rip the cap off. You now have a metal whip that will tear and rip the
other person’s skin, poke out an eye, puncture the throat or just collapse it & puncture their chest.

And the best part it was easily concealed. Heck, what about using just a knife or fork if food was
served. John Wick killed 3 men with a pencil so maybe the broken cue thing works better in a movie.

You don't have reason to think, Jack! All the things I mentioned and more all took place about 30-35 years ago. Probably before you even saw your first pool table. Don't talk out your ass about things you know nothing about.

I lived and worked in NYC the first 32 yrs of my life.

Plus, I have been playing pool for 60 years. I was at
Ames Billiards when they filmed the Hustler hanging
outside with lots of other pool aficionados. Pool has
been part of my life longer than you likely have lived.

It’s amusing how some folks react when taken to task.

I personally prefer 9’ and 7’ barboxes, and think of 8’ as a “tweener “ oddball. I’ve noticed that 8’ tables specifically make 8-ball easier. It seems to be the optimal ratio for the game; minimal clustering like big tables, but shotmaking is also easier, more like the barbox.
I think I agree with this. 7's are easier in so many ways but even with a banging break you will occasionally get clusters that you have to break open optimally if you want to run out.

I play league on 7 foot Diamonds so that's where I spend my time practicing or on my 8 foot table at home. I don't play on the 9ft Diamonds enough for it to translate down to the 7ft game and the only result from playing on the 9ft for me is mostly frustration. Sometimes I play well on the 9 but I much prefer and enjoy the 7ft Diamond over any table out there. If I had more time to invest on getting better on the 9 I definitely would.

8' tables suck. I still cant believe all the 8' tables in Texas.
As for extensions, I like them better than bridges. Don't tell me you don't need one on an 8' table because I've needed one on a bar box a few times.
And we all thought everything was bigger in Texas... 😂😂 No 10-12'ers?

That would be interesting

I’m sure there’s a variant that would make playing on a 6’ better. It’s too tedious with 15 balls.

Smaller balls like black ball would help some as well.
Come on, man!

Yeah, I got called me midget nuts but it was unbased taunting!

I don’t know who you think you were “taking to task”. I said what others in the business told me years ago. You pretty much called them and me liars. That’s pretty goddamn cheek of you! Unfortunately, one of those people is dead and I can’t reach the other for their comments. Have a nice day.

It’s been almost two weeks since I disputed your misinformed statements.
I don’t see any concurrence with your silly notions from NY forum members.

You pass along comical heresay that’s literally naive and ludicrous at face value.
I grew up in NYC & you’re swimming in a ocean of pure bullshit with your beliefs.

p.s. misinformed is different than being a liar…….more like gullible seems appropriate.

Anthony Beeler has a very good video that explains this in his online billiards academy (which I recommend. )

A lot of times this is a stroke issue. On a 9, your stroke must be longer, level and consistent. The result is more "elbow drop" for players who are used to shorter tables. Particularly going from a 7 to a 9. The solid stroke on a 9 translates down very well, but the solid stroke developed on a 7 can be much shorter with poorer mechanics and doesn't translate upward.
Maybe something in here is the reason it takes me an hour or more to start pocketing balls.
Haven't played pool on a regular basis for 25years. Just tried some today, by myself. At around the 60min mark I ran my 1st rack of 9ball on an 8' Diamond.

I saw a 3C table once in my doctors house in the Netherlands that was 1.5M or about 5’x2.5’ with normal size balls, proper cloth and cushions, slate was thick-I didn’t check it but it was a real table. Not a POS miniature home table. It was also very old and well used. I’d never seen one before. It had lots of books on it and hadn’t been used in years. At one time it was well used.

This was about 12 years ago. I couldn’t get pics of the table, balls or chalk(well worn). I didn’t see any cues laying around. Was a proper table/

I’d guess it would be much easier than a typical 10’ 3C table.

Never seen one since. Sadly he passed away in 2017.

You ever see one of those?

I haven’t since. Was less than 6’ or 2 meters in length.

What TXCC says I suspect is the case about learning the small games 1st before being allowed on the big tables. Although this is awfully small, a table like this could be used in a small apartment. Learning Caroms, Rail Nurse, Masse, Gathering .... doesn't need a large piece of real estate.

Just for example: A friend who is a fan of Straight Rail Caroms told me one of the drills on a 5X10 is Place an OB on the Head or Foot spot and your CB close to it and aiming toward the Long rail. The object is to touch the OB 60 times before rail contact. So on this table maybe the goal is 20times or whatever. Same good training. A table like this would be perfect for a mom or dad to train their youngster.

Rail nursing is cool, I can’t do it. I’ve seen guys do laps around the table. What ever they want they can do. In some Korean billiard rooms. Great stuff.

That small table my Dr had would have been perfect for training on. Man I wish I had pics of it. Was just before camera phones were a thing is when I saw it. 😔
